The Serial produced version of the Viscount-class Star Defender?

Side note: everytime i read about, for example the Viscount, i feel like: "So... authors went: OK Empire has X, so the Rebels/New Republic need Y which is basically simply all around better then Y"

It makes sense. The republic dealt with secret SSD'S for years in the EU and needed an effictive counter. Plus the republic was on the rise and not massively resource strapped by the viscounts time unlike the empire whom of which was falling under the tech advancement tree and resource tree.

i simply consider it slightly... eh... even if both sides (Rebels and Empire) would design the very same ship during the Rebellion most writers would most likely have the Rebel version be slightly smaller, needing less crew members and be an overall superior design. Overall it seems that comes around as the "best designed" imperial ship is the Nebulon-B... because it was mostly used by the rebels

That's not even mentioning that in older works the Mon Remonda (1200m, MC 80B) was capable, with not that much of support, to heavily damage the Iron Fist and destroy the Razor's Kiss... 2 Executor-classes... too many authors cater to these terrorists :P

Its not during the rebellion though. We're talking at least 14 years of tech advancements and planning.

Secondly, the Viscount classes were in fact actually smaller, required less crew and were slightly more superior to original SSD's. Also, cruisers are underestimated in Star Wars. I can't recall how well those SSD's fought back but cruisers can do some serious damage.

Thirdly, people still actually believe the New Republic were terrorists lol?

1) Yes i know, i was using an example for writers bias that, imho does appear from time to time, with the imperial ship that came off the best was the one that is more famously used by the Rebels (in the sense of: Rebel shipbuilding > the Design studios of a few of the biggest shipyards in the galaxy)

2) i know that hte Viscount is 17km long (the mass produced version) and overall superior... but the Mon Remonda was one of the more... amusing... parts of the Legends... even when the Iron Fist was at 8km.

I Disagree with the Cruisers being "underestimated"... but their weight class normaly is ISD and not SSD

3) I'm pro-imperial, therefore i consider the New Republic an illegimate terrorist government :P

Nice to see another person whose slightly annoyed by the eay the authors treated the NR ships, i prefer balance and trade-offs, btw 14 years aint long.

i would've went with the Star Defenders being somewhere between 8,000 and 14,000 Meters long but cheaper then an Executor. And from an efficiency point of view: 2 to 3 (depending on length and end price) Star Defenders would decently beat a single Ex, but not without atleast one sustaining comparably heavy damage.

As mentioned already: for me it's the feeling as if some authors simply go: "OK The Empire has X as iconic and strong vehicle... The Rebels need something similiar! And since they are the good guys their stuff must be better!"

Not even mentioning that many authors seeminlgy never thought about ships potentially getting refitted... basically, an ISD that was built in 12 BBY will most likely be the very same in 15 ABY even if it could've been refitted to be made more effective. (Dito SSDs)

So the new Republic could use more of the Viscounts and use them in more mobile roles VS the use of the SSDs. And instead of having ships that go "toe to toe" with the SSDs they'd have more numerous ships that can, in slightly higher numbers, beat the SSD while being overall more "mobile", in the sense of: they can easier be relocated and produced in higher numbers

MC80B Mon Remonda class is my guess going by the take on a whole SSD by itself comment. That's a lot of guns but mostly MTL's so it's definitely not any bigger than the other MC-80's.

Accidentally downvoted you, but I agree with you. Plus, it looks like its got the bulbous wings of the MC80Bb as well.

Mon Remonda with only, comparably, light support taking on the Iron Fist was, imho, one of the most ridiculous parts of the old EU... though back then the Exes were only 8000m in length but still...

Iron fist and razor were executor lengths between 19 and 16km's.

Also, lets just blame that logic under poor writing. There are some things of the EU that just need simple revisions. For example, having the Mon Remonda fight both ships with fleet support.

Also, the MC80B was show cased a loooooooooooong time ago.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Reichtangle is right. When the X-Wing series had been written, the official length of an Executor-Class Stardreadnought was only 8km.
LucasArts later changed that length to 19km. So the books in which the Mon Remonda could hold herself against a SSD assumed the ship to be easy smaller. Makes it a little less ridiculous, specially as she had Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron aboard.

even then the 1200m VS 8000m Ships is a bit meh... also that Zsinj was written a bit like a Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain (with the wraiths always being one step ahead of him) didnt help either.

For me it always feels like the writers of X-Wing wanted to make the Villains "Thrawn-esque" with their plans but in the end failed at the execution. Were nice books though

Yeah that is ridiculous. Haven't read it just the wiki summary. An MC80B vs two Imperators alone would be far fetched let alone two SSD's even at 8km.

Will it be possible to build things without building limits? I know it wouldnt make sense if the Remnant could build for example a couple of Executors, but I'd like to see some fight with the big boys :D

All things are possible with a little xml code tweak ;) You may not want to modify the game though when you get it since I'm guessing they are doing build limits for balance purposes.
