Is the other affect being kept or this will replace it?

I don't see why the old effect should be kept. It's just the animation for the shockwave artillery power, but coded out like a wave. It looks awkward.

I think this is perfect. It looks just like in TS (in-game) and like in the cinematics.

Why can't they rotae the turret? Looks weird when the whole tank rotates.

But always nice to see things in motion! I love all your new stuff!

They can rotate the turret, and they do. And you can see that several times in the video. They rotate to the target because I forgot to add RotateToTargetWhenAiming="false" into the AI update of the Disruptor.

I still have the old FX, it's just a matter of changing the weapon refference and un-outcommenting the linear damage update.

The sound is quite repetitive and noisy, would really prefer something continuous, low frequency, resembling a sine wave.

Perhaps as a balance factor, you can make it unable to rotate the turret, and fix the ugly 'rotate on the spot' vehicle mechanism in the process.

Read my previous comment.

Also I will never use a low-frequency sound for a sonic weapon.

I quite like this effect, but maybe its because I'm nostalgic for TS. The other effect did feel more modern and fell like they were actually HITTING the target because of how it kind of pulsed.

Also, a sine wave can be high or low pitch.

Actually, I meant 'sine wave' as an adjective for pulsating, not as in low freq. But in anycase, so long as it isn't too bright, it's good.

I think the effect could use an on-hit thing, maybe some distortion and a scorch mark? It looks odd with the beam just disappearing into the target.

That could work, but remember, in TS, they didn't have it either.

Either reduce their fire considerably or reduce their armor because the Disruptors are not only behaving like Wave motion guns and Lightning Bruisers but the time they took to wreck that Nod base turned them in Game Breakers.

4 of them took out a Construction Yard in seconds and structures like the Power Plant were gone in a single pulse.

Also those Firehawk looked massive near the Vertigo bombers.

I never thought I'd say that but they need some Nerfing.

...Just like in TS. Honestly, I don't see what's so wrong. The damage or armor could be reduced. In TS, they were kind of frail, so that can be adjusted, but the way they attack is fine.

Consider any unit in videos OP, because they're supposed to be shown off. If they were balanced, it wouldn't be as easy to show them off properly.

And here comes the next guy not reading the description.

"Currently the Disruptor is using the FX which Madin gave me, with a slight modification. Also it's horrendously overpowered."

I had a "0" too much on the impact weapon, which did 2000 instead of 200 on impact. Essentially each disruptor did 30000 (!!!!) damage per second on the impact weapon alone and it fires for 2 seconds.

Really? I think the effect is just fine, to be honest. Not cartoony at all. It's just like in TS.

I think your right it is like TS but that was made in the late 90's (early 00's?, long ago anyway), it's quite an old engine now and as nostalgic as I am for the old FX, a change wouldn't be a bad thing IMO.

Soundwaves shouldn't harm buildings.

They can harm vehicles, so why not buildings?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+3 votes
Sarge_Rho Author

Wrong. Buildings due to their rigid, and concrete, nature are much easier to harm using soundwaves than vehicles. Soundwaves are essentially shockwaves and tanks tend to survive them better than buildings.

Dude. It's sound. What do you wanna do, give the concrete a headache?

Reply Good karma Bad karma-3 votes

Dude, sound is made of shockwaves. If you get it to the own harmonic frequency of the building, the building collapses.

Sarge_Rho Author
Sarge_Rho - - 4,654 comments

*self-correction: If you get the building to resonate strong enough, it will tremble and collapse. It happened to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge due to Wind before. And almost happened to another Bridge because a parade happened to march across it at the bridge's resonance frequency :P

I just did give you two examples of structural damage by resonance.

Also there is the good old example of breaking glass with high-pitched sound.

This explains a little about resonance as a destructive tool which can, to an extent, be applied to sound. Structural damage through resonance of SOUND as far as I know is a myth but hey, its the friggin' future! Stop nitpicking!

Through sound hasn't happened yet, because soundwaves usually are not that powerful. But the Disruptor has one mighty speaker :P

Yes but that was in theory, though the glass i can imagine. Would be nice to see it done in RL, altough the chances are the tech is not available yet. PS: Why do those fanboys here keep minus karma-ing everything that isn't "OMG AWESOME WORK HELGE!!" ?

I think they downvote your comments because they are inaccurate. Sound can damage solid structures. Anything that can make solid structures resonate can damage them in fact.

Glad to see you followed my suggestion. I'm happy to see Tiberian History didn't mind lending you their Disruptor sound wave effect.

I think it looks rather nice and fits well! What do you think, Helge, was I right, or are you still not quite yet sold on an effect for this vehicle's attack?

I indeed like the effect. The Shockwave-pulse-raveparty effect I had tried to replicate the beam from the TS cutscene as closely as I could, but this just gets soo much more close to it.

Honestly, I liked the previous animation better w/ those pulses of light, this loox more like it is firing wafers of ice into targets. The *wafers* also appear to be rather lengthy but they also sometimes fire different lengths.
IMO, this wafer looking thing doesnt look right. If this vehicle were a vehicle landing unit, I'd expect to see something like this but on top of the vehicle, it unpacks into a bridge like this
En.wikipedia.org

Thats just kind of how that *wafer* loox to me. The ability of the dish to turn and fire is really good tho!

Description

Currently the Disruptor is using the FX which Madin gave me, with a slight modification. Also it's horrendously overpowered.

I may change the texture to resemble TS a bit more, and overall it needs some tweaking.
