The Citizen v1.1
May 28, 2008 Full Version 47 commentsHis home trashed, his family dead, The Citizen leaves his apartment for the last time. He seeks new friends, and a way to help the human resistance to...
The Citizen is set parallel to the events of the original Half-Life 2. The player takes the role of an ordinary man, pushed over the edge by the oppressive regime controlling his life. His home trashed, his family dead, The Citizen leaves his apartment for the last time. He seeks new friends, and a way to help the human resistance to smash the iron grip of the Combine. What follows is a winding tale of betrayal, determination and grief. Many obstacles lie in his path which require a sleek combination of agility, stealth, intelligence, and sheer violence to overcome.
Originally released in November 2007 and re-released in February 2008, this singleplayer episode is still in the making, and 3 more chapters will be added to the two existing ones.
You can follow the sequel progress here.

Although The Citizen Part II follows the events of this mod, it will be a different download for which we want a different rating as we think it is a big improvement over our previous work. Don't forget to bookmark the new page!

will this work on any source engine game ala random quest?
itis very very very goood andenjoying mod. thanks for the mod :D and one suggestion :
Make subtitles... :D i dont gewt anything afrom the chats sometimes...
Good Scnerio Good Idea and GGOD MOD !! :D 10\10
The sequel will have subtitle support in a few languages. We're implementing them as we go along instead of an afterthought to make sure we stay true to our word.
I played this mod the whole way through and I would like to say...... VERY GOOD JOB ! i fully enjoyed this mod and it was so cool and interesting. hope you release more mods like this 1 :P
Brilliant mod with an extraordinary love for detail, e.g. by introducing easter eggs. Looking forward to the sequel! :)
I've enjoyed playing this mod very much :)
I liked the voice acting and the maps (and of course the Half Life related in-jokes). The story was great, too; especially from the point when you join the resistance it got really exciting. But I have some suggestions:
-Make the maps more detailed. The mod seemed a bit lifeless because some areas were just not 'human' enough. For example, the racks in that weapon guy's shop were all neatly aligned and overall there's not enough random stuff.
-The story was great, but it could have used a bit more story telling. The protagonist's family that was mentioned in the summary didn't even appear in the mod afaik and I think that at some points the characters didn't behave like real people, for example (SPOILER ALERT) when they listened to the broadcast coordinating the attacks in that old theater. They should at least be kinda excited because those attacks are a small glimpse of hope in their seemingly hopeless fights and they could all die the next day. Instead they just go to their quarters without a word.
-Also, there should have been subtitles. Many people here on ModDB aren't native English speakers and sometimes it's kinda hard to understand what the characters are saying.
But overall it was great. I hope the next chapter of Random Quest will have similar amounts of win :P
Keep up the good work :)
8/10
This mod will not be worked on again, but most of your suggestions are being incorporated into the sequel (there's a link in the summary). Perhaps some of your requests are bit exagerated, as the original HL2 game itself had plenty of bland looking areas and lots of silent throw-away NPCs around all the time. I'm pleased with what we accomplished in 7 months (11 months for v 1.1) but it does pale in comparison to what the sequel is becoming.
You won't see another Random Quest chapter until "The Citizen Part 2" is out.
hmm i really enjoyed the mod but at the end *SPOILER AVERT YOUR EYES* the advisor attacks the trian then i am teleported to a balck box suspended in midair that i am half in and half out of and lets me fall if i try hard enough and if i noclip well you know what happens
Must be a bug because you should end up somewhere else. In any case, the mod can be considered over at that point. Replay that map only if you really want to say you've seen everything :)
HL2 Kleiner reference?
