The Citizen is set parallel to the events of the original Half-Life 2. The player takes the role of an ordinary man, pushed over the edge by the oppressive regime controlling his life. His home trashed, his family dead, The Citizen leaves his apartment for the last time. He seeks new friends, and a way to help the human resistance to smash the iron grip of the Combine. What follows is a winding tale of betrayal, determination and grief. Many obstacles lie in his path which require a sleek combination of agility, stealth, intelligence, and sheer violence to overcome.
Originally released in November 2007 and re-released in February 2008, this singleplayer episode is still in the making, and 5 more chapters will be added to the two existing ones.

Very..very... interesting mod.
I've just finished this mod, and I've got to say well done "Kasperg" and "Playbus". The dialogue is good and the action is solid. I loved getting Combine disguises and wandering around (Which would be a great idea for a mod, playing a Metro-Cop). The opening sewer was very atmospheric and cool. The first time you see Gman was great, you see him. He adjusts his tie, you run around the corner and *gone*.
The only things that take it down a little, were at some points it seemed like there was empty dialogue. For instance in the Rebel base, before you listen to the Commander bloke about your mission, it just seemed empty how around the base people weren't really talking and wouldn't say anything if you pressed "e" on them. And the ending was different... But other than that top mod! One of my favorite HL2 mods! Can't wait for the sequel!
87/100
I gave this a 7, based on Metastasis as the perfect 10. The ending was a little strange and I'm not sure what it was supposed to say, but it has a good story line overall. Mostly I marked it down because the mod did not challenge me. All of the fighting was easy and there were no problems/puzzles that I had to stop and think about. Nonetheless, I recommend the mod.
Well, I guess it always depends on your idea of a perfect ten. I would never rate a mod without voice acting, totally new architectural themes, interesting custom materials etc as a perfect 10 because those are the things I like to see in a mod.
Indeed, The Citizen isn't primarily focused on combat, at least these two chapters you've played so far. We'll see if your impression improves when the whole thing is done :)
I just finished the mod, and I must say I'm very much impressed by it! I loved the little FF7 reference, but the mod as a whole was well thought out. Kudos, looking forward to seeing more...
You guys ARE doing more, right? :3
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. We are making more, much more, but it may take awhile ;-)
Check the latest screenshots. Those are all new areas we're working on.
well, im stuck. whenever i get the combine elite suit, my screen goes black and i cant see shit anymore.
The options you have are these:
-Add the “-dxlevel 70″ parameter to the game shortcut in Steam and play that part of the map in DirectX 7
or
-Type “ent_fire elitemask stopoverlays” in the console with the current settings you have to remove the mask.
or
-Go into your SourceMods/The Citizen/materials/citizen folder and rename the file “eliteoverlay2.vmt” to “eliteoverlay.vmt”
I’d go for the third option without a doubt.
Nice Final Fantasy VII reference during holy war, ff7 was the best rpg ever made for sony
