Description

When the Breen launched an attack on Earth in the final months of the Dominion War, it was a costly but effective victory over the Federation. With the Breen entering the war, they had immediately proved their power and skill to the Dominon, and showed their enemies that nowhere was safe from their reach.

The Cardassians, while critical of the cost of the attack (few Breen ships survived), were inspired by the theatrical boldness of the Breen's assault. Lacking the ability to carry out similar operations of their own, the Cardassians began designing a purpose-built assault ship.

Eschewing the traditional Cardassian ideal of winning by attrition, the new Korinas-class cruiser is designed specifically for bold, head-first assault runs aimed straight at the enemy. Combining the forward firepower of a heavy cruiser with the speed and manoeuvrability of a frigate, the Korinas represents a potential expansion of Cardassian warship design philosophy. While only entering service in the closing days of the Dominion War, the Korinas has quickly proved her usefulness and will no doubt play an integral part in the rebuilding of Cardassia.

The Korinas is armed with powerful forward phasers, can fire photon torpedoes in devastating volleys, and possesses the typical sturdiness inherent in Cardassian design. An especially notable feature of this new warship, however, lies in her unique shield emitter. In addition to its standard shield grid, the Korinas can project a powerful energy shield ahead of itself. This shield covers a wide area, protecting both the Korinas and any allied ships in close formation, and allows the Korinas to commit to otherwise death-defying assault runs and emerge unscathed.
