Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
Contact with the Dominion was made in 2370 when the Jem'Hadar completely destroyed the Bajoran colony of New Bajor in the Gamma Quadrant, issuing a stern warning that any further 'incursions' into their territory would be met with deadly force. When the Galaxy-class USS Odyssey was also swiftly destroyed at the hands of the Jem'Hadar, the true extent of the Dominion threat was made clear - an advanced and ruthless power lay beyond the wormhole, and its eyes were fixed on the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. What followed was a climate of fear, as each of the major powers prepared to meet this new threat in their own way.
The former Cardassian spymaster Enabran Tain had been living in peaceful retirement at the time. Deeply patriotic and completely unsatisfied with the Central Command's confused and ineffectual response to the Dominion threat, Tain took matters into his own hands. Using his contacts in the Obsidian Order and the Romulan Tal Shiar, Tain began laying plans for a decisive blow against the Dominion - the complete obliteration of the Founders.
Over the course of the next year the Obsidian Order and Tal Shiar joined forces, and in great secrecy built up a fleet of 20 of the finest warships at their disposal. Outfitted for battle, crewed by combat veterans, and all equipped with cloaking devices, it was a powerful force to end the Dominion threat once and for all. It never occurred to either agency that their ranks had already been infiltrated by Dominion spies.
Under cloak the fleet entered the Gamma Quadrant and approached the Founders' Homeworld in the Omarian Nebula. Opening fire on the planet, the fleet immediately dealt devastating damage to the surface. They quickly realised, however, that it was a trap. The Founders, aware of the plot, had already evacuated the planet and left it as bait for the fleet, which was suddenly ambushed by a swarm of 150 Jem'Hadar attack ships.
Overwhelmed, surrounded and unable to escape, the fleet fought to the death.
Cool
Hm the light source in this specific map system is somehow weird.. Looks unnatural..
If I wouldn't know better I'd say the ships were copy pasted into the background. Of course that's not the case but that's how the lightning on the ship models appear better enhance upon that.
Other than that I agree with @ONF: Cool. :)
They're actually physically moving through a nebula. The 'purple' isn't a background, but a surrounding effect.
@Orionslaver: Interesting but irrelevant. :)
The situation remains the same. I'd place the light source for the specific solar system in a different angle or reduce it's shining value. Ships illuminating like that doesn't look so good. It's not bad but also not that good either. Of course this resembles only my personal opinion and taste but where's one there are others.
Never the less never forget the good old saying:
There is no accounting for taste. :)
Up to you as dev how you wanna act upon this constructive criticism and recommendation. :)
I take your point about the lighting jarring with the nebulae. I quite like the lighting at other times in deep space. Sadly we can't apply different lighting to a single gravity well.
And then they all died... The end.
