Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
Our efforts to overhaul the models of various GLA vehicles continues. Since the in-game GLA faction does not represent the standardised armed forces of any fully industrialised state, we found it appropriate to further diversify their visual appearance with a number of variants much like the Technical in order to put some more emphasis on their theme of customisation and salvaging. Take a look at the new Quad Cannons, Scorpions and Marauders. We would also like to point out that we are officially re-adding the original Scorpion tank since we've come to the conclusion that changing it to the Centurion robbed us of an iconic GLA unit that, admittedly, always had more character and charm than the vehicle that replaced it.
So no more Centy? ;_;
The Centurion does not fit for the GLA's hit and run tactics not that fast enough. I love the new Scorpion it makes me feel that I was back in high school when the game saw its first release.
But it was just so pretty! And kind of fresh, all things considered. Soviet surplus was done so many times...
And you could always stuff a bigger engine in...or paint it red.
Oh come on! I loved the New Scorpion! Just give this thing to a cretin Genarel, keep the Centurion in game!
I'm almost certain that this version was supposed to be given Yusuuf due to his keen ability to still smell the British Empire on the other one and his complete lack of a sense of humour.
I will never understand people fascination with the original scorpion. Always hated that pile of scarp.
I only just found out there was a fascination.
Sure, the T-26 it seems based on (So, really, Vickers 6-Ton) is kind of pretty but these...eh. Better hulks in this day and age.
Well now there's three other variants that further emphasize that they're custom tanks made from whatever scrap pile they could muster into a 'tank'. So now you don't have to keep in mind that its just another salvaged vehicle from the past but something they've created with their own hands and doesn't explode.
Just as an aside, is there a hard limit to the amount of variations a unit can have or is it just modelling and texturing hours?
Always wanted to ask, though, I suspect the technicals and maybe also the Hoppers could pretty much answer it for me.
There is no limit to it as far as i know considering Hoppers have a whooping 16 variants (altho its all minor variants with just basic equipment like lights stowage varrying)
O.O I thought there was just around six of them. Thanks.
I should probably play more.
May I call it volume hogging...?
I don't even know what to say, like holy **** these Scorpions look ******* amazing! Excellent job SWR!
Centurion????? They removed that tank??
I like he new Scorpion tank
No i like this one better
The one on the very right looks like it could've been used in World War 1 :P
Also I miss the centurion D:
Just like a Vickers Medium on a 38t chassis. The middle one is a Japanese Type 95 Light, the left one unknown.
that awkward moment when you look up the type 95 and notice that it looks very much like the thing you've just modeled with no particluar rl tank in mind.. XD
Just chalk it up to the GLA finally digging up some blueprints from parts unknown in the world that is made in 1935.
No more Centurion?
Aawww, I actually loved the Centurion. Hopefully it's given to one of the Generals. :\
I would even go a step further and rather than just scrap the original GLA Scorpion (which we have here), give it to another General (Salvage?) and make the new basic GLA tank be the same as the Black Market Tank and Toxin Tank from Generals 2.
Maybe instead of a special introduction for a general, an ambush ability that gives you a handful of, at the earliest, late WWII to cold war era tanks to provide above average firepower anywhere on the map.
As a kicker, promotions and salvage (if possible), would mainly improve their mobility and let them be micromanaged to safety.
Yes, I know the chances of it happening so I'll reserve it for a time when I finally manage to get my *** in gear and do something more than telling folks what I think would be fun to see.
No one with common sense would take a tank such as this to a modern battlefield. which is why it is so perfect for the GLA.
Given the nature of low intensity warfare, an armoured 40mm cannon in an infantry is still an armoured 40mm cannon in an infantry fight.
FINNALY MY HORDE OF STEEL RATS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!
tbh I'm happy to see the Scorpies back, BUT I did like the Centurion in its own right. Maybe give him to one of the Generals? With a bit of a buff over the standard Scorpion maybe?
I missed you
Right side one looks like toxic tractor
RIP Centurion Scorpion Tank
Born <insert 1.72? or 1.8? release date here>
Died <insert 1.85 (when it's released) date here>
You will be missed.
The salvage upgrade looks awesome.
still waiting for this Media.moddb.com
the centurion will be missed, but damn! those are some cool looking scorpions! really nice! :D
Our favourite little panzers return! But yeah the Centurion was also pretty nice. Hope it didn't get entirely scrapped.
Y'know, while I understand that the GLA is all about 'building anything from nothing', don't you think they might've also have several looted vehicles from other factions gained from battles (not ingame via hijacker)? Cuz its a bit more convenient to have a mostly intact vehicle which they can build from rather than having to build one from scratch. This can add to their 'improvised' theme. Of course the looted vehicles would be handwaved by being hastily repaired junkers which no longer match up to it's original performance.
"Looted tank ready fer blastin'!"
I think that their is a new thing coming that let the GLA use enemy tech.
The Original scorpion was awful, having a tank that was hopelessly outmatched by WWII tanks somehow have ANY effect on futuristic tanks was retarded even for C&C.
I thought your replacement with the centurion was one of the best ideas in the mod.
Not exactly, you can think of it in the same way as how tank shells vs infantry are done. In reality infantry won't just stand in front of a tank and get hit in the face with shells. He would be running around going from cover to cover, of course since animating this would be really difficult and would look odd in a fast paced rts like Zero Hour, they we're just given high resistance vs tank shells. In the same way, scorpion tanks, in reality won't just stand in one place and shoot and wait to get blasted by much more powerful and advanced mbts, they would probably use their speed to zoom around from cover to cover, taking pot shots at weak points until finally destroying their targets, but of course they can't do this as effectively as infantry, so while they have some resistance to tank shells, i.e. being able to take some direct hits wihtout dying instantly, it's not as much as infantry.
I can see you don't actually know what you are talking about.
T70 was a bit faster than the centurion, neither of were faster than an Abrams offroad, let alone its SABOT shell.
Zipping around is just to get to a good position, it wasn't an effective defense against enemy fire even in WW2 as any gunner worth his pay could hit a moving tank.
Perhaps, but that's why I said you "can" think of it like that. Of course the primary reason why the Centurion is scrapped is because it simply doesn't fit the GLA. They have next to no manufacturing capabilities, so they would have to steal the centurions, which would be a problem in the long run as the people they steal from increase security, cutting off their supply of spare parts until they run out. Eventually they'd be forced to build their own replacement parts until nothing from the original tank is left, which could be another interpretation of what the scorpion tank actually is.
and it's not entierly hopeless.using a 500$ tank to force the enemy to fire a 1000$ shell,is a preatty good trade,at least if i use the ygo term 'hand advantage'.
Then they should use the centurion, which is cheap and has the advantage of actually being able to damage a modern tank.
Where as the 50 cal on the Turret of an Abrams (supposedly outdated by the time of zero hour) would be able to knock out the t70/scorpion. All the T70 could do in kind is try to give the US crew a headache.
You do know this is a game right? One that is not known for its realism. Also it not a T70 or any WW2 tank, this is a tank made with modernish parts with a modernish workshop, styled after WW2 tank because their easier to make (meta: and looks more distinctive). Also as the description says "the Centurion robbed us of an iconic GLA unit that, admittedly, always had more character and charm than the vehicle that replaced it. "
Okay then, let's give the GLA some generic and boring modern-ish tank that completely clashes with everything else about their faction (Battle Buses, dump trucks filled with explosives and toxins, and Technicals) and looks right at home next to the Kodiak, Leopard and Crusader.
one of my favorit rts of the 2000s time to reinstal still I miss some cool and nice GLA units from shockwave but this is the ****
