The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Beefed up and ready for action! I decided that the most crucial "upgrade" I needed to make to this unit was the cockpit area. I mean, a TANK cockpit that is almost exclusively windows? As they say, "Windows are a structural weakness. Geth do not use them."
I wanted to keep the rest of the design mostly in-line with the original though.
Turret will still rotate but it will also now pitch up and down, as it should have. Missile pod will be it's own turret now as well and will not require an ability to use. The "gears" in the treads will also rotate as the tank moves, giving it a more realistic visual affect.
Now it looks like a warrior robot from the future!
You know, I actually think the original design was loosely inspired by the T-100 from Terminator... Lol
Very nicely done Far, good job as always :)
Love it, but I have mixed feelings on the cockpit design change. I liked the WW2 bomber design for it.
Yes but how practical is that for a tank? It was necessary for WW2 bombers because the bombardier needed to be able to spot targets as well as help defend the aircraft. On a tank, a glass cockpit like that would be a serious weak spot, especially since the T4-B has no shielding to speak of.
I tried to keep the new design very Star Wars-like and if you notice, it's essentially an up-armored version of the X-wing cockpit, mounted to a tank chassis. :)
Actually Far, the original tank did not have a glass cockpit. Just like star fighters and the windows used on the bridges of star destroyers, the material used is called "transparisteel".
It is every bit as strong as the armor plating.
Starwars.wikia.com
While I like what you have done, I think I am still a fan of the ww2 bomber cockpit design.
That very article you linked to says that transparasteel is much WEAKER than durasteel...which is what the armor plating would be made out of.
Every book I've read has described transparasteel similarly. It's stronger than real-world glass but is not a replacement for solid, durasteel plating.
Well not as strong, but it is a metal alloy, just transparent
Might be similar to comparing titanium to steel, but both are stronger than glass. I mean, they withstand laser blasts on capital ships, just not an a-wing crashing through it :)
Oh hell yeah. On a side note. Is the Imperials gonna get any love with the ground units? I keep getting wrecked by the Mando and Rebel main tanks..
Well the 2M Repulsor Tank already has gotten a serious buff. If you play with heroes, the 501st Legion is also a highly effective "kill everything" unit.
AT-ST walkers have working concussion grenade launches that bypass shielding, making them more effective.
The AT-AT will also be getting a little boost as well.
Are concussion grenade like the grenades used by the Zann Mercs or are more destructive ones? I'm asking cause I added Grenades to the AT-STs in my mod, except as an ability, I think they are too OP to use them normally.
Well grenades are grenades at some point... But the ones in my mod are fairly balanced. The stock Consortium Merc grenades were WAY OP...so they aren't that destructive but they do give a significant boost to the overall firepower of the AT-ST and make it viable in the later game when shielded units are more prevalent.
Cool, I think. Those Mando tanks just wrecked the AT-AT's. Kinda hoping for more units :D After all isn't the imperial strength in machines?
Yeah, the AT-AT needs to be the penultimate ground vehicle...even more than some Mando units. If the Empire excelled at anything, it was heavy armor!
Everyone in Star Wars was terrified of the AT-AT. I hope to see this buff!
Indeed!
Thank you everyone!
OMG reborn of that fine tank the alliance need some love to XDXD
the cockpit reminde me of the aac that always a good thing
a repurposed aac whit heavy turbolaser and tracks lore wise like the t1b to t3b
can we se the mighty torbo tank in the near futue :P the only true counter to the imperial terror walker the at-at
Can you post a link to some pictures of the tank you are referring to? I'm not sure I'm familiar with it... I'm glad you like this unit though!

this tank btw other modder have made it but it is a ugly duckling not all have ur skills XDXD
u can always contact the frence and improve there moddel so u
dont need to make it from scratch

I wish u and the FRENCE were a team there script skill and ur modeling skills dream team
I really like it. I have to say though, when I looked at the (very nice and detailed) texture on the "wheels" inside the tracks, my eye was drawn to the texture on the tracks themselves, which seems a lot lower res than the rest of the tank.
The treads have to use an entirely different texture file in order for them to "scroll" as the unit moves. That said, the treads are currently just using the stock tread texture, which is very low-rez. I do plan to remake it though, in the future.
Nice ME reference :P Like it
i can has?
You made my favorite ground unit look even more badass? Can I kiss your feet?
You may, for I am a generous god.
Now the Rebels won't see the Mandos coming unless they start singing the Russian national anthem or Vode An...
Maybe the tank can pull a crazy Ivan?
I like the cockpit better now. The WW2 bomber version would have worked better on an air vehicle, I think.
The sheer difference in quality of the skin is...astounding. You'd think a team of artists paid to do this would at least try for a slightly better look.
The paid artists are also under pressure from a game publisher to finish their work by certain deadlines...I am free to take my time, if needed.
That said, the UV unwrapping for 90% of the game's models is TERRIBLE. The texture work isn't necessarily bad...it's not great either. Generally though, the main fault lies in the models themselves and not in the textures.
Oh and normal maps...yikes they are bad in this game. The engine obviously supports them and can render them quite well but they are painfully underutilized and it hurts the artwork a lot.
I will concede the point to you. I really shouldn't judge either, since I can't do any of this to save my life.
Eh... You may not have the skills to make this kind of artwork but that doesn't mean you don't have the smarts to tell when it is good or bad.
I'm glad that I fall into the "good" category.
I will say, to your credit, that other game designers (making games in the same year as EaW, to be fair) were under the same deadline constraints and were still able to deliver quality products. Some fault does lie with the artists, to be sure.
I like the new cockpit design and I do agree with the others, it kind of does look like a new type of robot or droid.
Thanks! Either way, I feel like it looks more like a machine of war now. The other design was kind of steam-punk/retro and I know it was trying to mimic the Millennium Falcon's cockpit...it just doesn't translate to tank very well. The Falcon was a modified freighter, after all.
I really like this tank, so i'm glad its getting some love :D Good job!
Looks great! Is this tank still super OP?
Does anyone know of a program that lets me play online with my friends? The servers are finally down I think, and i wanted to play rise of the mandolorians mod with my friend. But I don't know what programs will allow me to do so. Like can anyone help?? I have gameranger but it only lets me play through vanilla. i wanna play my mod though..so can anyone help?
Yep. Gamespy is no more... I believe you can still play on Steam but then, you would have to purchase the Steam version of the game. Other than that, it's LAN parties. lol
Will you be adding buffed up infantry for the New Republic and Remnant I love have infantry battles but imperial infantry is useless half the time.
They will still be weaker than their Mandalorian counterparts but I do plan to reinvent infantry in this game and give them something besides "spread out"...which is a useful but boring ability.
These look satisfactory, congratulations Farseer.
Great model as always Farseer. I love the T4-B tank as it looks like a badass tank. The thing that bugs me some is that it lacks a small caliber anti- infantry gun. Not asking you to add it. Just seems like a design over site to me. Keep up the great work!!!
The guns it has are fairly good against infantry as it is. They aren't rapid fire but they usually one-shot infantry units...while in return, infantry do almost no damage to the tank itself. I think adding an anti-infantry gun might make it OP.
I wasn't criticizing your work Farseer. More of a comment on the the tanks design in general. Your T4-B is great work as always and I cannot wait for your updates!
"Missile pod will be it's own turret now as well and will not require an ability to use." Thank you! Model is much better, but you know that :)
