That was the idea. The design was inspired largely by a speeder concept I found on Google and then a cross between the Starviper and Basilisk, respectively.

You propably mean the balutar speeder from the TCW series.

Nope. Good guess though. Here is the concept piece that I drew from:

3.bp.blogspot.com

As you can see, the overall design is nearly the same but the texture is original and the concept speeder was not armed.

Huh, cool concept though. Plus it makes sense canon-wise when it looks similar to the balutar.

Doesn't Haran mean something along the lines of hell?
Hell airspeeder?

Welp it still seems like a cool unit nonetheless. Heavily armored and armed with two canons the size of the rider's arms. The enemy won't know what hit them until it is way too late.

I take it you aren't a fan of the name? To be honest, I don't completely remember what haran means...but you are way more knowledgeable in such matters so I trust your assumption.

I originally made the cannons smaller thinking "pinpoint" firing and then I was just like...man this thing the **** up and give it some big boy guns, worthy of a Mandalorian. Lol

I didn't say anything about the name. Just translating it. I actually quite like it.

Did you happen to draw inspiration from the Mandalorian Heavy Blaster? You know, the tiny hand pistol that could cripple a starship.

Ah, just the way you phrased your comment made it seem like maybe you weren't keen on the name. I am glad you like it after all!

No, I didn't use that blaster for inspiration...though I was aiming for the same type of...power. Lol

Wow, it looks so amazing :O It reminds me a bit of the Mandalorian speeders seen in the "The Clone Wars" TV show
Starwars.wikia.com

EDIT: From the first pose, I guess that their heads and those two front panels are fully animated, right? That would be awesome :D

Yes, the pilot is fully rigged and animated when necessary. The speeder itself also has moving parts :)

Damn. You've outdone yourself with this masterpiece. This is freaking amazing and it really feels like a real canon unit. Regarding the design this thing fits perfectly to the philosophy of the Mandalorians. Technically you should seriously work for a Star Wars related design company. That thing is indeed an example of perfection.

Awesome work!

Thank you!! I am glad you say it fits. I was really trying to mimick the designs of the Basilisk and Starviper but at the same time I used the common Swoop Bike as inspiration for the air scoop because it still needed to feel like a speeder.

There was a speeder concept I found on google (non star wars) that I also used as the base for the design...while the texture and details are vastly different from that design.

This thing looks rather sweet. Similar role to the New Republic's airspeeders?

Also, just how many things on this are animated? It looks like the pilot, large flaps and the control column/panel/thing are all animated to some small degree.

All of the things you mentioned and then two little repulsor engines that sit just behind the "wings." The engines aren't animated in any fancy way...just kinda rotate vertical when floating idle and then rotate back about 45 degrees while moving.

That's...quite a bit more than I think I've ever seen animated before. Definitely adds a certain life to the units.

That's the objective. Animation is an integral part of immersion... You know when it's too stiff or just plain wrong. I know that I'm not the best animator out there but darn it if I don't use all the talent and knowledge I DO have. Lol

Wordsmith_Vithar

Well, even a little animation is always neat.

And...based on your other work, if the animations aren't at least really good you'll probably rework them until they are really good.

Yeah...I generally can't just leave something as "good enough." Obviously some things just aren't perfect but I have to at least do my best.

From my view point (where I can barely do a little XML play)...You certainly get really, really close to movie quality with some rather high quality skins/models/effects/etcs.

Description

This is a completely non-canon unit that I've made to give the Mandalorians some type of aerial force (something that their Consortium counterparts were seriously lacking in vanilla FoC). I'm thinking they will deploy in squads of 3, armed with medium lasers that are most effective vs infantry.
