Current skyfortress sucks. Need new design. Post ideas, inspirational images, and ranting here.

I assume you've already went for the obvious WW2 bomber look. Now, they all look mostly the same, which is kinda sad. Currently, it does look rather thin and strange. Maybe a more round design, such as the En.wikipedia.org Douglas. It's just supposed to be a normal but old plane, right?

I think that it should stay turboprops for the engines. The B-17 and B-29 look is classy. Maybe a split tail like on the A-10 Thunderbolt? I'm trying to give it a unique profile.

Resign? :)

Lets see, perhaps a B-25 En.wikipedia.org with a B-17 En.wikipedia.org nose?

The B-25 is exactly what I had in mind. Protroid, you're a mind-reader. :)

Perhaps something like this.

Acepilots.com

The wings on it look better to me, its machine guns are more out of the way, and I personally like the long tail behind long wings design.

I think the one I linked is a B-17, I could be wrong.

Off-topic, its a bit unfortunate that the Century Bomber voice sounds pretty much perfect for the Confederates, but is probably unsalvageable since people would probably recognize two voices- unless replacement lines were supposed to be said by a co-pilot or gunner.

EDIT: Again off-topic, this flying fortress plane looks just silly. (Like a flying building.)

Guys, you all are going around the problem. The huge and only problem is to combine a WWII bomber with a VTOL design. What looks strange on the skyfortress is by no doubt the engine suspension. The fact the wings continue AFTER the joints.

Do it like on the Osprey, make the engine nacells like a part of the wing, and the best, place them on the tips or it will look unstabe.

I think the non-slanting wings are mostly what make the Skyfortress look odd.

Yeah, the Consolidated B-32 Dominator pretty much wins.

Can it still have the Eagle spraypaint?

Maybe?

I'm not a fan of the huge tail on the B-32 Dominator. And it looks pretty much identical to the B-29, and thus the current model.

Oh, part of the problem with the current model is that it's too boxy, not round enough. And that the tail's a bit small.

round ain't the design theme of the confed, they use boxy style, and they often have skeletal tails on airborne stuff ://

Their ground vehicles are boxy, but aircraft are supposed to be round. Square edges mean hull failures when under pressure (thank you systems failure class!) and the model of the Skyfortress looked like a long box. Using more polies to create a more rounded fuselage wouldn't hurt.

I was thinking about a P38 lightning inspired bomber with skelatal tail, but yes you are right :/

I think they wanted a heavy, WW2 looking bomber. A twin hull aircraft looks too, Soviety and modern.

modern? That's a P-38 Lightning for you, a WWII interceptor (but bombified by me)

That flying building Galgus posted looks like it would be good for something called "sky fortress".
