An expansion/overhaul mod of epic proportions, with entirely rebalanced gameplay, expanded factions, new gametypes, graphical overhauls, and five new factions; stealth-based Confederate Revolutionaries, tower defense-inspired Atomic Kingdom of China, economy-focused Mediterranean Syndicate, DotA-esque Order of the Talon and spammy Electrical Protectorate.

What's All This Then?
Well, we all know that videos are awesome. They take advantage of two of our senses, as opposed to writing, which only involves one. Plus, watching a
video takes much less effort than reading text.
That's why I think it would be awesome to apply the wonders of videos to getting Paradox more attention, and giving people newer to the mod something helpful to watch. We've already got this in the form of commentated replays (which I will be making more of, I promise!), but I think that there's other things we can do as well.
The Plan.
Basically I'd like to do (and think it would beyond awesome if other people would too) a series of videos to be put up on youtube that introduce players to some of the new mechanics in Paradox. Figuring out everything in the mod by oneself can be difficult (I know it took me forever to figure out that the singularity hub even existed) and I think some tutorial-esque videos would be of some value to people new to the mod. I was thinking that videos would usually focus on a couple specific units or strategies, and provide in-depth explanation of the subject unit/strategy/gameplay element.
I was especially considering doing a video on the Confederates and their unorthodox build system for the benefit of those of us who haven't followed this mod closely enough to have instinctively know what they're like.
The videos would likely be of me playing against an AI opponent, demonstrating whatever that video was about.

So, whaddaya think? Good idea? Bad idea? Should probably be put off until the mod is more developed? Got an idea for a video? Gonna make a video yourself?
Gimme feedback.

Yeah. This should wait. At least until after the full first release.

Wait. This just gave me an idea. How about we make a short video for each and every unit, describing its strengths, the niche it fills, its weaknesses, some viable tactics and other pertinent info.

I think Ferris started that with the Pavlov, then stopped.

Isn't that what that question mark at the bottom of unit profiles is? If we make videos for each of the unit's then we get two things done. The question mark, and advertising.

We could also make it interactive, and make it more of a paradox map you download.

If I ever can, I'd be more then happy to try and do some instructional videos for using the Confederate Revolutionaries.

That makes more work for us to do, which is not the objective. Besides, one could just make a video of the unit in action and post it onto YouTube or something.

Lol Well I already suggested it but then again anyone who is willing to post gameplay videos through fraps, no one is stopping you

I think someone on the team made one unit spotlight on Youtube- about the Pavlov: perhaps more of those would be good.

A way to introduce new units, show off how awesome Paradox is, and explain correct usage and counters.

This should happen, but we'll need more features inacted before it can really take off. Start out by doing some of the simpler stuff (let build mechanics and directional armour perhaps) and we'll work on getting sweet mechanics out to you guys.

We have a COMMUNITY for a reason. And I propose putting this up on the wiki first. You guys can choose to implement it in game or not. Someone could start with one of the easiest of the new units. The Horizon. Seriously, its a no frills piece of hardware that no one can screw up on. Or if you dont wanna wait for the chronorift shell, do the Achillies first.

I'll try, when I get a good computer, which should be soon.

Dec 18 2010 Anchor

Basically, yes, this will be something akin to Command School, with a little Battlecast Primetime and Unit Profile Video thrown in for good measure.
If all three of those were to get freaky and produce a small litter that then went on to inbreed for a couple generations, you'd end up with the kind of videos I had in mind.

Also, I'd like to point out that I do not, nor do I think anyone should, expect the dev team to contribute and/or assist in the production of these in any way shape or form. Between Paradox, school, work, and actually having a life, they're busy enough as it. Plus, they're already giving us amazing content and features; what more could we possibly ask for?
I mean, if you guys (dev team) want to do some videos, or help the community with some, that's great. But we're not demanding anything.

Anyway, I'm gonna try and do a video today, and I'll have it up tomorrow night at the very latest. I'm gonna start small and cover the most basic (yet still awesome) thing I can think of: the Confederate build mechanic. I'm not gonna cover any units, specific traits of buildings, base defenses, or playstyle. Just the way they build. Baby steps, right?

I think I should be fine. Probably. Most likely.
I'm tinkering with some settings to try and get as little violent quality rape as possible, but if it turns out that my laptop is too frail to provide good, clear, lag-free footage, I'll let you know.
