Please note: Everything in this is work in progress. We'll replace the Cremators effects with a particle one.
This is only for showing off our Alien Swarm build of Missing Information (more on this later).

If you're going to stick with this type of effect, it would probably be a good idea to switch to a perlin-noise beam like the vortigaunt's zap attack from Episode 2.

Not quite what I thought you meant by "particle one".
You could have meant a stream of particles like fire.
Or maybe metaball particles (Portal 2' paint) for acid.
Sense they are in ASW, they can use the metaballs, because they are available in ASW's particle editor.
I doubt they are suitable for a long range attack like the Creamator's cannon.
I think I saw a shader for fluid particles in Nvidia's papers. It had something do do with rendering the particles to a Depth buffer, creating world space normals from that, and lighting it deferred style. I think there was a "thickness" buffer in there too that controlled color saturation or something. Ofc I'm explaining this with my nonexistent knowledge on how shaders work.
It ends up looking pretty nice if done right.
I have no idea if this effect can be achieved in Source though.
This one looks pretty outdated (the zap effect) for source.
It fits in GoldSource, but here...

Btw, I thought the Cremator was originally supposed to spray acid from his gun. And a pipe goes from the gun to that 'poke-ball' on his stomach. It makes more sense than green lightning, lol :V
All his weapon sound files in the game start with "plasma" so maybe it just has highly flammable juices in its gut.

it shot acid, which would burn up organic mass;

Alien Swarm is it´s own source engine - branch, and Orange Box (S2007 & 2009. 2009 being unmodable due to lack of sdk base and source code. yes, you can map for it and thats it) is it´s own source engine - branch.
They are modable now, I'm doing it all the time.
Alien Swarm and HL2 Beta? I hope it's not what I think it means...
Their is no Code for the 2009 branch. You can only map for that branch.

Its still the Source engine, but we're using the version that comes with Alien Swarm.

Maybe I'm just not getting it but cremator = flamethrower? >: either way do what you want. full support here, glad to see some activity on here.
The cremator never had a flamethrower, it had a different method of disposing bodies with its weapon. Just burning bodies on the streets would actually be quite nasty thinking about it now.
Keep in mind guys, this is just a test map, and we don't plan on sticking with that green beam effect. But yes we are alive even if we don't always talk about what we're doing.

Also a fun bit of trivia: Contrary to popular belief, the green electricity effect was never supposed to be the Cremator's attack. This was actually the Strider's old weapon. The more you know!

Even though I AM happy about this, I just realized that this is JUST a test map. Even though before I just wanted any kind of update, I just realized how small this one is. Keep up progress though, before I stop being nice. (I'm joking)
If you think you're disappointed now, wait until you see the next update! It will be the biggest let-down ever!

Somthing you should know is that all other mods that are "trying" to make a HL2 beta are either
1. Full of viruses
2. Suck balls
3. Never update even longer than this one
4. They have a Trodjan virus
So really there is no other mod that actually is trying. Also I would not like to have things to keep me in the loop. I would like this mod to be finished soon since this is a good mod. I think that you should at least tell us what your not updating, if you are either
1. Are not going to update you fans
2. Are no longer working on the mod
If you are no longer working on the mod, tell us so we at least have a reason to support this mod. Not only that, but one of those mods that you suggested to me got me a virus, so I had to get a new computer. So you have made me have to spend houndreds of dollars on a new computer.
