The L.U.R.K. team wants to provide the best possible experience from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, we don't plan to skew the scope of this game, because I, like many others, fell in love with the game because of the story, the realistic gameplay, and the atmosphere. I plan to preserve and improve on that concept to the best of my abilities, and our team has vowed to do so as well. Which is why we took it upon ourselves to provide that experience. We want to fulfill a niche that's otherwise unfulfilled in the modding community. We want to bring as many features to Stalker without damaging or changing the original theme of the game. While improving upon that concept with features that were dropped off the development cycle from GSC, such as stealth AI, and a strong foundation for balance, as well as dynamic A-Life, and an unprecedented visual presentation that no other Stalker Overhaul can touch.
Now to make the lowpoly version for ingame use and render normal maps..
I guess the texture will be similar to the AK-47? What is the max polycount in the vanilla game? To compare :)
Hmm, vanilla ones are a few thousand triangles maybe. The final low poly will prolly be 7-8k ish but it shouldn't affect your performance.

I'm just wondering because of the magazine, it's for ak-47 series and not for the 74's. This weapon is kind of hibrid or we can call it AKMSU plus a "M".
The magazine is less curved than 7.62, because it's a 5.45 magazine. The AKS74U will accept 5.45 metal magazines just fine :P
As far as I know the only countries that make stamped steel 5.45 mags like this are Poland and Romania. It would look pretty strange to me to see EVERY AKs-74u in the game have these mags when the standard polymer mags would be FAR more common.
Maybe you could do a variant with the standard mags too and they could add both to the game?
I don't mind the metal mags. I'm just glad he got the curvature right, whereas the original STALKER game really did look like a 7.62x39mm stamped mag.

If i recall, the stalker engine can only handle 3 million tri's at once... and this weapon has more tri's than 1 completely textured with-alife-and-weapons-in-it CoP level.

Probably noob question, but why you bother with high poly model instead making low from start? Isn't it easier to make low poly models?
I make the normal maps from a high poly model
But you could generate normals from texture, should do the trick.
