The first jackal model. Adding red shields and snipers soon. Shields pop when health is low...health slowly recharges, bringing shield back over time.

I really like the shield mechanic
Will the shields have a chance of deflecting projectiles (such as needles) like they did in Halo:CE? This may be hard to implement with the shield depletion system as well, but it'd be a cool idea.
Not hard at all, actually. The Jedi units in the original game all have a deflect ability and then I can just set that ability to only deflect needles or whatever. Simple.
Well, the issue would be that the shield would go down, but the Jackal would still have a chance of deflecting projectiles.
Oh good point... Hmmm. Well maybe i can make the shield a hard point that can be damaged but not seen...then link the ability to the hardpoint? Hardpoints can have abilities so that should work.
Well, once destroyed a hardpoint can't be repaired. I'm sure you'll figure something out.
Linking the hardpoint to a dmg alt would work...nake it so the hp dissapears when health is low...comes back as it heals.
Well, like I said, hardpoints can't come back once destroyed, even if health regenerates, but I'm sure you'll figure something out (in the LUA perhaps?).
Well, with this setup, they would...because the HP would not be "destroyed" in the actual sense. What would happen is this:
model_name_ALT0 (the base mesh the game uses when NO damage on unit)
model_name_ALT1 (model used when slightly damaged)
And so on...
So what I would do is create a bone called:
b_jackal_shield_ALT0
But NOT include an "ALT1" version of the bone. In this way, the "ALT0" bones or meshes will vanish when a set amount of damage is taken and be replaced with the "ALT1" iterations...unless an "ALT1" does not exist...which is wouldn't. Make sense?

Are they deployed in troops or are jackals lone finghters?
What you see is one squad...they deploy as a fire team of four. Three regs and one major (red shield). Jackal snipers will deploy alone.

... the shield is on the wrong arm, but other than that, pretty good. Because they have the plasma pistol, can they fully charge it and use it to stun vehicles for a special ability?
Meh...oh well. I don't really feel like reanimating the entire unit just to change the shield arm. And yes, Jackals will have the overcharge ability.

Yes. I like a lot of the Halo Reach stuff...just not Skirmishers, the lame-*** Focus Rifle, or the way the Elites and Brutes look. H2 Elites are best and H3 Brutes are best.

H:CE and H2 are equal. :) I do like many things about both.
I think the H3 elites are best. In Halo: REach they look more like monsters. Also, is it me or do the jackels seem to big?
Nicely done on those models, it'll be fun using them to harass the UNSC units.
Yep. The UNSC have marines and Odst w rockets as T1 infantry so the covies needed some anti vehicle infantry for cheap as well. The overcharge ability wont kill a vehicle like a rocket but certainly makes it easier for any other unit to do so.

They should work as long as you define them in the unit code

Yup. You have to specify at what amount of HP each alt is swapped out
Yeah, figured that out. lol. It's just a bit of code I've never really looked at before and it was with every vehicle already so I assumed it was just something done via the model. Anyway, got it working for these guys and now for the Banshee too! I had ALTs for the Banshee that weren't working for this same reason.
It's just amazing how you can totally show everyone what is up and destroy people with your awesome looking models.
I don't even own this game! I plan on getting it eventually, but I still love this mod!
