This is a fantasy RPG mod. The setting is millions of years in the future, when mankind has developed a high level of mastery over the universe. One such mastery, that of the body, results in humans no
longer dying of old age.  Accidents are virtually the only cause of death.  Humans have become demigods by today's standards, with a very high social status in the universe. It has become mankind's daily operation to dispatch teams or individuals to various causes in the universe.  Reasons range from settling disputes among the lesser developed races out there, to answering assistance requests for
imminent catastrophes. The planet Earth, and it's solar system, met their demise long ago. Humans now call another planet home, and time is measured in 'projected' earth rotations from the origin solar system.
Although mankind can travel through space without ships, fleets of human made ships do exist, primarily to function as transport for the lesser races, and to present a formal face. The price for immortality is a dangerous road. Mankind has learned that possession of 'special' abilities is not inferred from the womb. Every human born must develop them on their own. There is no training that can teach these abilities, only a life of danger and adventure can properly form them. Therefore all humans, upon reaching full physical development (roughly two decades) are cast away, sent alone to exist on a randomly chosen planet until they develop their full potential. This process is called one's 'Eon of awakening', and consumes various amounts of time, depending on the individual. The average duration is a million years, and most succumb to death by accident during their Eon.  Their instructions as they are dumped off are: To explore, adventure, and become a member of whatever society may exist on the planet. Most humans who survive, become considered as 'gods' to the planet's population, living through countless generations of the species, and with ever growing powers.
One of the first humans to reach the highest level of power currently understood by mankind is Balan, who has become a luminary figure, even in human society. Attaining the rank of 'caster', Balan is not bound to obey the 'collective mind' , a governing body, and has the power to choose the planet that some humans will be 'cast' to for their Eon.  Balan went without child until well over ten million projected years of age. His firstborn being a male, Balan named him Aovon.  Balan knew from the day of his son's birth which planet he would cast his son to when the time came for his Eon.
He had discovered an ancient power source on the planet reffered to by the collective mind as EFH21-K7.  Keeping it's existence a secret from the mind, Balan planned to cast his son there, believing that the power source would greatly accelerate his son's development.

The player will assume the role of Aovon, as he is cast to the planet for his Eon of awakening.

I'm pleased to announce the official launch of "Eon"  We have been at work for weeks now in a pre-recruitment phase.  During this time, we have completed the basis of the mod from multiple standpoints. The story functions well and is ready to produce content for. We have a viable design document, and a specific task list document for developers to 'check off' on as they select a task from the list. Progress is getting heavy in programming. Props and materials have been produced. The menu system is coming together with a cohesive and attractive theme.

Level design at this point is primarily limited to test maps and scenario backdrops to test the proof of concept for programming. Several new, custom entities have already been produced and integrated into the mod's .fgd file. In the hands of level designers now are concepts such as random encounter generation, dynamic character switching, and pre/post battle scene timing.

More working features will be posted in the features section.

We are currently recruiting for:
*Level Design (mappers)
*Model Design (any level of ability helpful)
*Concept Artist (give the 3d artists something to work off of!)
*Materials (help speed things up for the 3d guys)
*Sound Design - We have a few guys doing some music, so you could collaborate, or just do your own thing, but we're wanting a soundtrack of several dozen themes for characters/places etc...

Join the team by posting on our website's forums ('welcome mat' or 'show and tell')

New members will be given access to the developer forum on our website. From there you'll have your hands full reading the posts, which comprise a robust documentation. Inside you'll find the full (developer's/SPOILER) story, the design document, the task list, documentation on completed concepts, and a mapper's reference for using the mod's custom entities. If you then decide to stay on, FTP information will be provided, and you can choose your first task off the task list.

With the amount of coding this will take, I'd say that you'd be better off doing it as an indie game? o.o

Using HL2 isn't a bad move at all, but I think you could do this just as well on an engine like UDK or Irrlicht - maybe even unity? - It's just because it seems like HL2 would take so editing in this case, that it almost wouldn't be worth it ..

Anyhow, good luck with the project and try to keep it well organized =]

Thanks! I'm actually enjoying the extensive hours of coding time. It's been a great way to improve the old skills :)

No, it is completely original. At first, it was going to be a prequel to Final Fantasy 6, but now it is not.
