Deep customization gives you control over your character in Dragon Age. Race, appearance, abilities, and equipment all affect how you look. What you do will affect how you are perceived.
Your origin defines your place in the world and how others see you. These playable sequences introduce the world and let you decide how your character becomes a hero, setting the tone for the entire story to come. Stand at the heart of the storm sweeping across Ferelden. Choose the fates of nations, people and, ultimately, yourself.
Just remember: for every choice, there is a consequence. Control your perspective as you guide a party of four into battle. Issue orders, build your own tactical AI, or take control of any party member to lead the charge. Downloadable content will provide you with exciting new stories and ways to expand your Dragon Age experience beyond the original game.
Use the provided toolset to author your own adventures to share with friends. Dragon Age: Origins utilizes a new game engine named Eclipse. It has been confirmed that a toolset for creation of fan-made content will be included, though it is a single-player only game. BioWare co-CEO Ray Muzyka describes Dragon Age: Origins as a 'spiritual successor' to the Baldur's Gate series, though it is not based on Dungeons & Dragons.

Bioware's upcoming spiritual sequel to Baldur’s gate may be a while off yet, but as of today you can sign up to get your hands on a beta copy of the Dragon Age: Origins Toolset. All you need to do is create a Bioware user account and then sign up for the beta. The required form you need to fill out has all the normal questions and technical requirements like DXDiag output and your current amount of modding experience. Nothing too difficult right?

I've always been a massive fan of CRPG's so this is something I'm going to be looking into. So look out for some updates in the near future.

there HAS to be more mods people put on. Theres a dragon age site with tons of downloads.. I would like to see some of those downloads here.

kut2thachase, just leave him alone. :-) There's Savage 2 for you, I'd play it instead of planning to buy Dragon Age if I were you. (That's why S2 is so awesome. "Swing and click", and "looking with mouse" is much more entertaining than choosing abilities/powers and watching your characters to do the job instead. ;-))
