Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.

Empires v2.24d has been released. Small yet very important, 2.24d should be cross-compatible with unpatched 2.24 installations.
Fixes:
+ Lots of potential crashes
+ Squad ability cooldown removed
+ Rifleman sticky grenade damage against turrets increased
+ SMG2 slightly rebalanced
+ (from 2.24c) the chat background visibility can be toggled with cl_chatbackdrop

Why does this hl2 mod take over 10 minutes to load into a server that has no people in it?
Even with 1gb I think I can play a hl2 mod...
After all i can play cod4 with no lag...
Thank you for this wonderful mod. Seemingly professional games/mods are few and far between nowadays.
When will the next update be out? The last one was 2.24d and that was 5 months ago. There aren't any updates on the site.
updates dont usually come as fast as they had been for a few months. in just a couple months the mod jumped from 2.12 to 2.24d. thats a big jump, with lots of updates. lets let them work on some things before forcing them to shunt out an unpolished new release.

People dont hesitate with getting this mod! Its awesome and the best mod ive played, ive tried almost all multiplayer hl2 mods out there and i must say that this beats them all :D GET IT!!
One of the best multiplayer mods out there, and one of the games I play the most. Very well-thought mod, quite balanced, with many custimozation possibilities. This mod is at least as fun as Counterstrike, TF2 or other multiplayer game. In some cases, it is better than them. The different game modes available let the players choose their approach on how to play. The game is a bit hard for beginners who tend to "feel lost" because the mod is different from usual multiplayer games. However, once you get used to it, you can't stop.
My only complaint is the lack of players. Of course, there are always 3 or 4 servers with people playing, two of them (40 and 60 slots) are usually full, but you know the saying: "the more the merrier". Come on Moddb users, spread the word, this game is seriously awesome.
And thumbs up for all the Empire's team!!
