Empires is a mod for Half-Life 2 which will combine the genres of real-time strategy and first person shooter. Each team has four classes to choose from (scout, rifleman, grenadier, and engineer) with unique weapons and skills each. One player will become the commander by entering the team's command vehicle to build the team's base and lead his team to victory. Once your base is built up, purchase vehicles from your team's vehicle factory to open up another facet of Empires' gameplay. Vehicles can be customized with unique weapons, armor, and engines. The commander can research improvements to all aspects of vehicles such as longer range cannons, homing missiles, and armor-piercing machine gun rounds. Once your team is prepared, lead an assault into the enemy base. The enemy team is defeated when all players are wiped out with either no place to respawn or no reinforcements remaining or the team's command vehicle is destroyed.

Empires v2.24d has been released. Small yet very important, 2.24d should be cross-compatible with unpatched 2.24 installations.
Fixes:
+ Lots of potential crashes
+ Squad ability cooldown removed
+ Rifleman sticky grenade damage against turrets increased
+ SMG2 slightly rebalanced
+ (from 2.24c) the chat background visibility can be toggled with cl_chatbackdrop

One of the best multiplayer mods out there, and one of the games I play the most. Very well-thought mod, quite balanced, with many custimozation possibilities. This mod is at least as fun as Counterstrike, TF2 or other multiplayer game. In some cases, it is better than them. The different game modes available let the players choose their approach on how to play. The game is a bit hard for beginners who tend to "feel lost" because the mod is different from usual multiplayer games. However, once you get used to it, you can't stop.
My only complaint is the lack of players. Of course, there are always 3 or 4 servers with people playing, two of them (40 and 60 slots) are usually full, but you know the saying: "the more the merrier". Come on Moddb users, spread the word, this game is seriously awesome.
And thumbs up for all the Empire's team!!

I had my suspicions. How lame.

This crashes for me. It only gets to where it says loading when I first launch it. I have all sdk/sdk bases installed. I have all of the ep1 engine games and the orange box engine games and have run all of them before. I can play lots of other mods without crashing so why does this crash?
Sounds like you only installed the patch. Have you downloaded the full client from there : Pwc-gaming.com(~850 MB)?
