Angels Fall First: Planetstorm RC5
Sep 17, 2009 Full Version 30 commentsAngels Fall First: Planetstorm is an objective-based assault game fought both in space and on the ground. Featuring totally original art and completely...

This war might be anywhere, in any age. The complexity of weapons, the ideals, the settings are all meaningless. Today like the day before you have seen friends slaughtered, their blood mingling with that of the enemy. You have heard men weeping themselves to sleep in their bedrolls, weary and sick of the work of killing.
Tomorrow the blood could be yours, or theirs. These thoughts, like a trillion prayers, are repeated across an ocean of worlds, many cut short, none answered. Welcome to a universe at war with itself, where the feuds of nations consume the lives of men as they have done since the dawn of time.
Welcome to the Angels Fall First Universe.
Angels Fall First: Planetstorm is an objective-based assault game fought both in space and on the ground. Featuring totally original art and completely new gametypes, we take you from flying gigantic capital ships, piloting fighters, and manning turrets to the traditional vehicular and infantry combat, both planetside and inside the starships themselves. At your command are more than two dozen ships and vehicles, including all original weaponry, 3 maps with full bot support, two custom characters, with more on the way. This is a total conversion mod in the fullest sense of the word. Welcome to Planetstorm.
Planetstorm is set in the Second Antarean War. The second interstellar war between the proudest and oldest colony of mankind - the Second Antarean Star Empire - and the combined forces of 5 nations and assorted fringe protectorates - the United League of Planets.

After the tragedy of the Crowning Day Massacre, tensions have been stretched to breaking point between the Antareans and their de facto conquerors. Amidst the burgeoning riots and outright rebellions of the Antarean Federation planets, the young heir to the Antarean throne, Marius Lucan Andromedeus XIV, has reemerged from seclusion to rally the largest single geopolitical entity of mankind into the new Antarean Star Empire in order to reassert the nation's stake in the galaxy.
The Antareans had been beaten into submission almost three centuries ago during the horrific Unification Wars - precipitated by the brilliant machinations of the legendary Taurean diplomat Yvette Edrasil who united five of the largest stellar nations to form the United League of Planets. The conflict was a desperate bid to repel the expansionist goals of the Antarean and Solesian Imperial forces - and it was won only by the skin of the League's teeth, with massive loss of life on both sides. During the final battle the Imperial worldship Gatarna was mortally stricken and pursued into the dark spaces of the Sea of Antar - never to be seen again. Antares never recovered from the loss of her emperor-father. The Antarean worlds were rechristened as the Federation, and absorbed into the ULP under the jurisdiction of the newly formed League Parliament.
For three-hundred years since, there has been peace under the banner of the United League of Planets. But like any vast bureaucracy, the ULP has begun to fracture from internal strife and corruption. The deceptive peace has proven to be nothing but the gathering of kindling. Now the spark of rebellion has been struck, and few will survive the conflagration that will consume all the settled worlds of humanity.
Both sides believe that their cause is just and noble. A unified galaxy. The unification of the scattered children of Old Earth. But at what cost?

Planetstorm is an objective based assault-style game played in two theaters, in space, and on the ground. In space you must engage fleets of massive warships...

This MOD is VERY promising. I've always admired your briliant ship designs in Naval Combat Operations.
I am still a little confused about some things, but I'll get into it.
Just few comments: -Walk animation is terrible, slow it down.
-Mission objective should be clearly recognizable, I think that icons "destroy" and "defend" have the same color, right? Sometimes I'm not sure what to shoot at.
-I think that on some space maps you have too much blur or DOF
- We have a complete set of new animations for the upcoming release.
- The hud is long overdue for a complete rework but that is on hold until the udk version now.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the reply Jet ^^ cant wait to play with your mechs :P
I noticed :p
Any estimate on when we can expect to see this ported to the UDK? I can't wait to see what yall will do with this once it's over to the UDK. It's already so impressive but for you to have basically freedom with the engine is amazing.
UDK engine access is no more unlimited than with UT3. Most of the same restricitions apply. With large chunks of UT3 cut away also, we will have to do things like rebuild the server browser, rebuild AI pathfinding, rebuild large portions of the maps to take advantage of new features, just to get more or less back to where we are now. It won't be quick, I'd estimate at least six months. However in that time we will also add new features.
Should seriously ignore the AI for now and get a multiplayer beta or something out. I posted this on a forum I frenquent and it within a day had a thousand + people interested in it.
As it is it would be quite popular as a standalone for Multiplayer.
Nice article in US PCGamer . Hey Jet.
we could really use a scan of that if anyone can oblige.... (PCgamer) we havent seen it!
No, sorry, there proved to be simply too much polish required on other aspects of the game, and we're not as large a team as you might think. At least post-msuc we won't be in a massive rush and we can do them right.
