Company of Heroes: Back to Basics

Mod review

Takes what was great about Vanilla COH then enhances it and balances it more.

It's a fun, uncomplicated mod for those of us who still like the vanilla gameplay and don't want a complete overhaul of everything.

A few little AI issues, but aside from that a great mod

Edit: The main little issue I have is with the Whermacht Leutnant, where "V" is for both Supervision *and* Nebelwerfer strike, so often I have pounded my own base with rockets, instead of increasing the production time of a unit lol

Very nice mod, really ads a lot more vibrancy to the game

This is Africa we are talking about here - a continent with deserts and jungles and to have them void of any colour (other than a dull green)

The menu looks a little warped, but once you get in to the gameplay it is much, much more enjoyable

Top effort and love the size of the mod!

Invasion 1944

A vast improvement on previous versions. The coop missions are the funnest when taking on enemy troops, tanks and planes in one full-scale bloody battle. Top effort by the devs!

Hidden & Dangerous 2

Game review

Probably the best tactical shooter I've played (though I usually played lone wolf in H&D2)

It lived up to the expectations set by it's predecessor and really brings you in to the gritty realities of war. The RPG elements make it interesting, though skills like lockpicking aren't great at all - as the skill is rarely used.

The ability to force an enemy soldier to surrender is a very nice addition to the game and the realistic nature of how you are detected is a nice touch.

The missions are very good and varied - though there are a few maps that are recycled for replay missions (day and night maps), but that's not too much of an issue as the way they play out are very different from the originals.

The graphics were slightly dated upon release, but the game engine was still quite demanding and tweaks over time (as well as texture packs) have helped rejuvenate the game to a newer look and feel

I've always got time for H&D2 re-install and play-through as the immersion it has with the sound, atmosphere and music is what keeps me coming back

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb

Game review

Probably the best Indy game for the PC in terms of gameplay - other than the original classics of course!

Desktop Adventures was okay and Infernal Machine will always be the #1 Indy game for me, but if you don't want clunky controls and repetitive puzzles, then the Emperor's Tomb is the way to go

Sure it's still clunky and getting a controller configured to it is a real pain, but when you finally get the controls how you want, you're in for a treat and while the story isn't as strong as it could have been - it's still Indiana Jones =)
