Experience Doom 64 like you never have before with this HIGH QUALITY sound pack!
To install, you do so like any other Wad, just drag into your designated WAD folder and add the file to your ini file. There are 4 files in the zip, so I will tell you what each of them are for.
1. Doom64_SoundBulbKEX.WAD is for the 2020 remaster of Doom. To use this, put it in the directory where your Doom 64 2020 remaster is installed and then go to the game in your library, click on the cog wheel icon, click "properties" in the drop-down, and then add "-file Doom64_SoundBulbKEX.WAD" to the launch options.
2. Doom_PSX_64_SoundBulb.wad is for ZDoom based ports. THIS IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PSX TOTAL CONVERSION!
3. If you are using a more faithful source port like PRBoom, you're going to need to use Doom_PSX_64_SoundBulb_Legacy.WAD. This version has the same sounds, but converted to Doom's special sound format to work with pretty much any source port imaginable. However, Doom sounds are 8-bit, which means they have noise (aka quantization). DO NOT USE THIS FOR ZDOOM BASED PORTS! THERE IS NO NEED!
4. Finally, we get to extra_sounds.pk3. If you've heard of the Sound Caulking mod, then you'll know exactly what this does, but on a much smaller scale and with sounds that ACTUALLY fit with everything else. But if you're not aware, this pack adds new sound effects for all the enemies that use duplicate sounds that don't fit their sight sounds at all, giving each and every one their own sounds. It also adds a new chain gun firing sound effect which also applies to chaingunners and Spiderdemons. This only works with ZDoom based ports.
Thank you. These are pretty good. 👌🏻👍🏻
YES. I was thinking about remastered N64 sounds way before this sound pack was ever released. I used to play doom with the psx/n64 sounds all the time simply bc they sound better than the original sounds IMO
Oh, yesssss....
I am loading Doom64_SoundBulbKEX.WAD with the Doom64 Remaster, but sounds seem to be mapped completely wrong. Is there any special way to load this (I guess -file is the only way, actually) or am I using the wrong file?
-file Doom64_SoundBulbKEX.WAD
That is the only way
Is there any difference between this and the pre-bundled HQ SFX addon?
