Hello all!
Production on Revision 1.0 is finished. Some of you are wondering why we aren’t shipping yet. We’re addressing that today.
A while back we started incorporating tech into Revision that was a step beyond what anyone had ever done with this game. We implemented engine-level bug fixes and tweaks for the game’s rendering system, such as allowing decals (e.g. bullet holes) to appear in mirrors, ensuring footstep sounds occurred correctly, and increasing the limits for BSP geometry to ensure that our environments could be more detailed and more stable. We started using portions of what has been named the Revision Framework (so named because we led to its creation, not because it is exclusive to the inner workings of our project), a piece of tech that makes it relatively easy to expand on the game’s content and systems. We are quietly working on RF, intending for it to be released to the DX modding community.
Concerning the game's content, we have tied in continuity threads to the official entries in the franchise in the form of emails, logos, and other references. We also discovered some potential copyright problems in both our in-game and promotional graphics; we’ve been very busy reworking things to make sure those don’t become troublesome later on.
All of this lead us to feel extremely cautious- we want to ensure that when we release, there are no potential land mines waiting for us. So we approached Square Enix with the intent of making sure that everything we had planned was going to be fine. They’ve been very helpful and supportive; the processes has gone on longer than anyone anticipated, and we're taking advantage of the time to implement little fixes and bits of polish that were otherwise slated for the 1.1 update. On the one hand, we would love to get Revision out the door ASAP. On the other, we’re committed to making sure that we can release it and maintain it in the best possible way, and with as few stumbles as possible.
Thank you for your continuing support and patience. We almost have everything in place. And the satellites are ours when we need them.
[July 9 Update]
A few of you have been expressing concerns that Revision is related to Mankind Divided or will be a paid-for release. Neither of these things is the case- we have no involvement in the promotion of Mankind Divided, and have never considered making Revision a commercial product. We are not providing precise release dates for a pretty straightforward reason: We're holding some confidential talks with Square Enix to make sure everything is okay, and to make something cool happen, something that we aren't talking about yet, because it's not finalized yet. We've been having a series of back-and-forths to make sure that everybody on our team is happy. There are no real problems, just technicalities that have needed to be ironed out. At this point (July 9), we're expecting these things to be wrapped up shortly.
Everything is pretty much OK, and we're in a position where we have to talk to some people to make some things happen, and the timeline for making those things happen should be pretty fast, but is partially out of our control. All we ask of you is to please be patient.
Do what must be done.
Do not hesitate, show no mercy.
Go in and go in and go in like the U.S. marshal and his three daughters.
And we lose the vaccine.
We need to power down the whole system.
i never asked for this
What a shame.
He was a good man.
What a rotten way to die.
You forgot to open the Mayor!
the GEP gun takedown is always the most silent way to release Revision.
Are you trying to lecture me on tactics?
Get Pills against my orders... Get Moving!
I...I....I thought you were a GEP gun.
I've been watching the Revision webpage almost daily for over a year now in anticipation, so needless to say, I'm really looking forward to this!
(buried)
So a "releasing soon" announcement to tell us that you're not releasing yet?
"Releasing soon" - copyright by Caustic Creative since 2009 :D
Many thanks for the update.
I'm sure everything regarding Square Enix will run smoothly and the project will get the greenlight. If anything; this mod should showcase how powerful the Deus Ex brand is and will always be. SE should embrace the significant community interest and the hard work that has gone into creating Revision over the years. Keep up the good work and keep us posted on the developments that follow!
I'm anxious for this.
Engine enhancements are making me board the hype train, be careful I can only take so much.
great can't wait to see this.
Tell me, how is optimisation going? Previous demo lagged a lot for me on Liberty Island. Now I have a GTX970 and a i5 @4,4GHz but I would like to know, how do all the new goodies you mention perform.
What computer did you have then? I'm assuming you are talking about the 1.3.1 Demo.
The same one, only with a GTX670
We've made some progress since 1.3.1 on optimization- the game as a whole should be smoother than that demo. DX is heavily CPU-limited though. You could have an Intel HD 4000 and it the limiting factor would likely still be your CPU clock speed.
Yes, basically CPU speed (the number of cores aren't that important) and the amount of memory you have RAM + VRAM so every asset has room to live in RAM and doesn't have to be swapped out to the page file. 8GB and a 64-bit OS should be fine, since the game is 32-bit it can only consume 3GB of RAM anyway.
However a proper graphics card is really recommended, we found that Intel HD 4000 does not implement OpenGL properly and some things are bugged and if you want to turn on some filters like AA or anisotropic filtering you will need something "decent".
I would presume that a NVIDIA GTX970 is "decent".
Very much so! Integrated graphic cards, not so much.
Great news! I have been getting that Deus Ex itch lately :D
We are getting desperate.
Your turn.
This Revision is seriously mega as I don't recognise any area's from the original base game.
I can't wait to play as it should be like a whole new experience.
Great Work.
Take ALL the time needed for a perfectly polished (within the human limits :D ) realase!
Cannot wait! Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Get PILLS against my orders! Get moving!
I will play this SO HARD.
Both literally and figuratively.
Wait does that make sense
Why do you tease us so much...
Why contain it?!
Let it spill over into the schools and churches, let the bodies
pile up in the streets. In the end, they'll beg us to release it.
I might as well start using coke.
Beans might be useful...
Glad to see it coming, I hope some level design issues from the previous builds were addressed.
I know that the latest release was near perfection as it only had few problems with enemy placement for the most part.
Expanding upon an excellent game is hard but totally possible. For me it's just a shame that I can't contribute to the deus ex community with assets because that's a bit what I would like to provide.
I got some advices and still have hard time experimenting.
I had hopes even in currently dead projects, but at least revision will live and probably relaunch some hype regarding the first game.
Good luck with the upcoming release.
This is making me really anxious.
All you had to do was find a prime number and multiply! :D
Sooo...what you're saying is:
We're aren't ready for an introduction. No....Not yet?
Seriously, we've all been very patient. It would be stupid to rush it at the end just to get it out. Take your time, tie up loose ends, and release a polished mod. True fans will wait. The rest will just get added to the list of NSF casualties.
I love you mommy <3
I take it, this thing is dead now?
You are calling the developers' hard work dead.
Nice.
Well, what does it look like to you?
The game has been in some weird limbo since May (the last playtest update) now.
I wish for it to not be dead at all, but what else can you deduct from such behaviour?
I'd say dead is when devs don't show any signs of being around, we are very much around each day.
Releasing soon... Is it too much to ask for some updates and a bit of honesty from the devs? Anyone saying anything against them has been shouted down by the fanbois - unyet it's a simple fact that they appear to be stringing their supporters along and are now rapidly losing all credibility. Hard one to recover from unless they make an effort pretty quickly.
What should we say? We have no new information to publish. If you are interested in technical updates you can check my blog here, I don't think technical updates have any place on the main moddb place since everyone just wants a release.
People just want an update that says exactly that. Stick an edit on the bottom that says 'August 9th: We have no new information, stay tuned.' Same problem here as an ISP social media page.
Only way to calm the self entitled is to make them feel that you give a **** about their concerns.
Stringing their supporters along... forcing them to visit this page day after day... the struggle is real.
"forcing them to visit this page day after day" lol xD
