Latest news of our development status with some general notice as well some background team info. We moved the ETR to Q1 2013 for good reason.

DEVELOPMENT STATUS

THE SHORT VERSION

We have an extremely dedicated and energized teamwork going for us.
We are not ready to release.
Last minute features are being completed and a few new bugs need fixing.
Afterwards a new round of beta testing will be required (we don't take in applications).
Frequent polls about updates will continue to inform about our progression.
Notice of release will be published at least 1 week in advance.
Thanks for the support.

THE LONG VERSION

We have an extremely dedicated and energized teamwork going for us and development is as productive as always.
More than once the team has agreed on settling with presented features and finishing up the mod -only to find ourselves full of new cool ideas soon after that we had to follow or at least test.
This is the reason why we have redefined the ETR a few times by now.
Every time for good reason as the mod constantly has depth added to it.
- - -
If we were to release version 2.0 now the feedback interaction and obligary patching would
steal away our focus and give less room for expanding the mod content any further.
And with current progression and motivation our ressources are better spend
with doing everything we want this time around.
- - -
The talent and modding devotion in this team simply deserves better than feeling the pressure
of deadlines hanging above our heads. This mod project attracts experienced modders and the team is constantly being energized with new skillsets and ideas.
Recently we revived a whole range of feature ideas and have already started testing and implementing these.
- - -
There would be little logic in putting a hold on the current modding devotion of the team.
The energy is simple too creative to be forced to stop.
- - -
With this decision the ETR is now Q1 2013 as we deserve a focused mind with zero deadlines.
As always we do recommend not to play MISERY 1.1 but of course that will be completely for you to decide.
- - -
This change of plans is well worth it as the outcome will be that more interesting for you.
We will keep doing the polls for updates to keep you guys posted about our work and progression.
With recent changes to gamedata a new proper beta testing will be required
and we don't take in any more applications for this.
- - -
Notice of release will be published at least 1 week in advance.
Thanks for all the support

THANKS

Thanks for all the encouragement and feedback that we get.
This is the reason why we put such an effort into the public display and promoting of our mod project.
In case you are interested the [active] MISERY development team is:

We are supported by SpetzNaz_Reaper, rickpnick and other cool people.
See Q12 in the FAQ for more credits.

Peace, N.Aaroe

I like to say "Slow and steady."

Better for it to come full with new content and stable, not as it is now, buggy, with less content.

Agreed. Of course, we're all hyped for the new features but its not like it'll be forever. If people need something to do, if anything while we wait, then don't forget the Steam Christmas Sale is on about now.
Why compromise?

Well - please look at this from following perspective:

We are of course partially aiming for a 'succesfull' release in therms of warm welcome by the waiting community (and of course as always thanks for all support guys), however we are even more aiming for the period which will come few months or even years after release and want our 'product' to still stand out then.

We really feel that - as far as FPS sandbox experiences go - we really have a chance of delivering something unique even in therms of commercial releases. This is mainly because we do not have to and never will simplify or dumb-down stuff as we are not selling anything here. On the contrary - complexity and variety are of really high value in this project.

So, we are all gamers here - please give us time to realise stuff which we've all also dreamt about for a long time. I think that there will really be few places in which some of the stuff we are putting is, is going to be available to play with.

I'm happy with these news and sneak peek things, take your time and make it as good as possible. But dont go quiet on us and make us think you're dead, or give us an agonizing wait saying its coming out in 4 months or something, when its ready its ready.

Can I advise against dark grey text on a slightly darker grey background?

Apart from that, it's no biggie. I'd rather you released the mod later than it was buggy. I'd advise against feature creep, though - you'll end up with a bloated mod that takes ages to make and bugtest, no matter how cool the individual additions are.

Hey look, these guys aren't being douches by releasing an unfinished game so they can be on-time! This is why I prefer mod communities and indie game developers to big names at this point.

On another note, could the team release the changelog when they announce the release of 2.0? It will take some of us the better part of a week to read through it in detail anyway.

Thanks guys, the MISERY team here is a wonderful group!

I just realized how much of a bitch play-testing has to be for modding any of the STALKER games. I feel your pain and headaches already.

I've sort of gone beyond patience and impatience with this mod. I've simply come to accept it. Sort of like the weather or some other force of nature. It will be what it will be when it wants to be. All I've got to do is take it as it comes.

The only difference here is that with every drop of rain falling in this place the puddle gets that more fun to jump around in. And it is likely to last that much longer too.

Don't become Duke Nukem Forever for STALKER COP please.

If you still need talented beta-testers capable of finding the needle in a haystack, I still have a few testers available ranging from mac to Windows 8

Thats reasonable, however there comes a time and place when you have to put your foot down and say "we'll release as is". If you keep on delaying and delaying and delaying, eventually people (and the team) will start to think that it may never be released which may end up coming true. Once team members start disappearing and bugs left neglected, they start to pile up and what you end up with is half the team gone and a lots of problems you'll have trouble dealing with on your own, in the professional industry it ends up as bankruptcy.

But thats just me being impatient (which is surprising considering how many games I still have left on my backlog) and cynical, I don't think that the worst case scenario is at all going to happen on such a big, popular mod with such talented people but the fact is this bad thing usually happens to mods.

You're right in your statements but so far there's been no risk og loosing control or motivation in this team.
It is not like we are agreeing for a whole new production year ahead of us but rather that we just want things to be completed with proper attention and speed required in order for us to deal with things the best possible way.

"It is not like we are agreeing for a while new production year ahead of us".

Welp, the announcement of Misery 2.0 was back in...

January 15th, 2012.

Back on Sept. 9th, you guys even had a "Final Stages" section to your news update.

So....What's preventing you from taking another year to develop? Because we all know by now that you're just going to keep putting more and more stuff in, which in turn will prolong the release date more and more.

Finish it. Release it. Patch it.

The mod doesn't have to mirror the STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl development cycle.

MISERY 1.0 was released at Jan 15.th 2012 and MISERY 2.0 started as an idea some months after.
The ambitions grew and of course so did the ETR.
We will release when it seems right for us and with current features being completed there is little sense in just ignoring them. I think that you will enjoy them too.

Btw, modding is not just a simple adding of one feature after another. Some things will require a new game so where's the joy in playing 10 hours only to be able to download an addon with nice features that requires you to start all over?

Will there be localized versions of the mod, specifically russian version, since it's the original language of the game? Are there any plans for that?

I could help with localization/translation; I find playing the game in English takes away from the atmosphere.

I've been playing Misery now for a few weeks and I love it. The level of immersion is so much more satisfying :D Just wondering if there are any plans to have more roaming groups, and perhaps even caravans that traverse the Zone like in Fallout 3. Perhaps even the player could do guard duty for cash/loot rewards and fend off mutants or bandits. Or the evil player could simply take the caravan for themselves if they can :P Anyway rant over, great mod keep up the good work :)
