Behold the Yuuzhan Vong Army! This mod adds the Yuuzhan Vong Race as a playable faction and all units of this era. We are a community of modders working for the greater goal, so anyone who wants to help or support us is welcome!
A product of Rendili, but able to be purchased throughout the galaxy, the FireStar was shielded, carried 1 squadron of y-wing bombers, and had the following armament:
16 dual medium turbolasers
10 Imperial AA lasers (Lancer variant)
4 capital grade concussion missile launchers
(armament changed from wiki description for sake of gameplay)
Model by Nekronata Raeven
Details by Burntstrobe
nice job! but why Y-wings and not fighters?
If I had to guess I would say this platform is most vulnerable to capital ships. As a result, bombers are a better defense mechanism against those ships than fighters.
y-wings were the most common local system defense fighter, this was due to their rugged design, and heavy firepower, allowing them to fend off most types of pirate craft.
That and the fact that, like the Z-95, they are quite old and therefore have had time to be sold off to other markets (they are no longer a "premier" military craft).
Additionally, the Y-wing was easy to modify and many militias or defense forces could turn the bomber into a fairly capable fighter with a few tweaks.
and the fact that there where literally million if not tens of millions of them in circulation making them cheap. you saw ywings in use by just about anyone from the rebel alliance to pirates to the Kessel Defence fleet under Doole's command, from just after the clonewars all the way up to and beyond the vong war (when jacen turned evil they where still around a old veteran commeted suicide buy blowing up his Y-wing, to start jacen thinking.)
This looks exactly like the Wiki Picture!!!! You guys really do a professional Job :)
It looks like it's not that hard to recreate actually. It looks like an abstract artist was drafting his art and midway a guy from West End Games passed by and then asked if he could use that for the roleplaying game.
To say that it looks "exactly" like the reference is like saying it looks like Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars Holiday Special. (/Right after the car accident)
Speaking of which is the Holiday Special Legends canon?
Holiday Special isn't canon. It may look like a concept, but that fits for WEG's overall style which was concept and technical like drawings to fit in-universe believablity, and to provide the RPer and Star Wars nerd lots to ogle over.
This thing looks so cool. Nice job guys. It will make a good addition to my anti Vong defenses.
So, a bit of insight to the mod:
We will not be having upgradeable space stations, or in-battle buildable defense satellites. These were ideas that we felt were unrealistic. Upgrading a space station would take considerable time, and building a variable turret defense satellite is something that we just didn't thing would occur during the middle of a battle.
Specific worlds will start with a prebuilt command space station. Examples of this are the Ubiqtorate base at Yaga Minor, the Wheel at Ord Mantel or the Fleet Command Battleststion at Bilbringi. Other worlds will have a more generic "rebel" or "imperial" station prebuilt at the beginning of the game. These stations will attribute to population value and earned income, but cannot be upgraded. If a space station is destroyed, it is lost forever.
To defend these stations, we will have purchasable defense structures such as golans, the Firestar shown above, and some others. These stations are built off world, and hyperspaced into position when the player is on the GC map, and not while in battle. So essentially they are bought and installed off screen.
These defensive stations will have predetermined positions in the space maps, just like how turbolaser defense towers have predetermined positions for ground maps.
We might experiment with the idea of having each defense structure type linked to a host-manufacturing world, such that if the host world is lost or destroyed, that structure will not be available for the player on any planet. This is still just an idea, and not yet confirmed if the code will allow it.
We have several ideas for defense structures in mind, we have a full list so no need for suggestions. We will continue to show more as materials become ready.
Wil you be able to capture stations instead of having to destroy them in an attack?
It Would be interesting If you could do this with ships as well. I.e Have external shipyards outsourced to produce other planets ships types (like Sluis Van producing Mon Cal ships) but once that planet is captured it can no longer be produced that certain craft off world or if you can capture that planet you can produce there ships off world by Independent contractor shipyards
Even though this is relatively obscure, I'd love to see free releases for this and the Torpedo Sphere when they're ready.
