I'd like them to be more than usual system guards...

Sadly won't happen. There's no other meaningful way to work them in.

You may see a band of them roving around on occasion.

Description

The Miradorn are a humanoid species with one noteworthy feature - born in pairs, Miradorn siblings typically form two halves of a single being. A strong bond exists between Miradorn siblings, to the point where should one sibling die or come to serious harm, the other, even if far away, will suffer great distress, lasting trauma and even physical pain for an extended period of time. Miradorn siblings will often travel together, and will go to great lengths to ensure the other's survival and welfare.

While not an overly hostile people, the Miradorn have developed a reputation for being stubborn and surly, causing them to come across as unfriendly. Unaligned with any major power, and thus not bound by their laws, the Miradorn have also become known for trading in exotic, illicit or hard-to-find goods. Miradorn smugglers are common in Federation space.

Experienced, tactically proficient and well equipped, Miradorn mercenaries are also a common sight among private security forces. With quality ships at their disposal, Miradorn mercenaries are a wise investment for those with enough money to require protection.
