I think it’s a little odd that this ship is the Federation repair vessel. I feel like it would go better as part of the “Old Fleet” you can summon from that station.

Description

The Constellation-class cruiser was first launched in the 2280s to compliment (and later replace) Starfleet's ageing fleet of famed Constitution-class explorers. With its smaller sister, the Miranda, taking on the role of a workhorse frigate, the Constellation took on the role of Starfleet's primary exploration cruiser, serving with pride on the Federation frontier. Its position at the head of the fleet was short-lived, however, as the Constellation was quickly and completely outclassed by the Excelsior-class heavy cruiser. Nevertheless, the Constellation has had a long and storied career in the fleet, and is still viewed fondly by experienced officers.

The Constellation is one of those designs that succeeded despite itself. With the development of the Excelsior-class taking the highest priority, the Constellation was designed and constructed using existing technology and limited innovation. Utilising solid, tested features the Constellation was a refinement of old ideas. Indeed, perhaps the Constellation's only innovative feature is her use of four warp nacelles, compared to the traditional two. This novel (at the time) idea allowed the Constellation to undertake longer missions in deep space without the need for an engine overhaul, as the overall strain on the warp drive was greatly reduced.

By the 2360s the Constellation was being placed in increasingly limited roles - supporting colonies, running supplies between starbases, and other somewhat less-than-glamorous tasks. Now, the Constellation is nearing the end of its service life and is on the verge of being decommissioned altogether. It is easy to forget that the Constellation, even with its humble beginnings, has had a long and proud career in the service of the Federation in peace and in war. These characterful cruisers possess a charm all their own, so endearing that it is not uncommon for former captains and crew members to privately yearn to relive the glory days of the Constellation once more.
