Star Trek: Armada III begins with the first stirrings of the Dominion War and allows players to take command of five unique factions, the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire, the Cardassian Union/Dominion Alliance, and the Borg Collective. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no one has gone before.
The Talarian Republic was involved in a lengthy conflict with the Federation in the first half of the 24th Century. The Talarians objected to the presence of aliens along their borders, and carried out many raids on Federation colonies, some of which ended in massacres of civilians. When Starfleet responded to the threat the Talarians began utilising guerrilla tactics to surprisingly great effect, notably booby-trapping derelict ships that would explode in close proximity to Starfleet vessels that came to investigate. Many Starfleet lives were lost to these traps.
Technologically the Talarians are far behind the Federation. Their warships are typically armed with a combination of crude particle cannons, X-ray laser beam emitters and merculite rockets, none of which are a match for Starfleet weaponry. However, the Talarians gained a reputation for cunning, and doing whatever it takes to safeguard their borders from 'alien filth'.
Booby traps?
Sounds interesting. Sins lacked traps and all sorts of unforseen consequences. I hope there will be more attention distracting features (with reasonable frequency).
Not global, of course. Whale pipes, bloody gigantic snowflakes, doomsday ice creams, rogue spacedivers in old school cubes are cool, but I think full and eventful gameplay consists of small day-to-day affairs, good and bad deeds, points of interests, etc.
Not like cheating backstabbing Ferengi, of course.
Oh fear not, when we here in the Terran fleet are done with them the Ferengi will not be interfering in any affairs ever again.
Day to day or anything else..
Send them my regards with one of your photon torpedoes. Will ya?
