Hey guys, anyone still on these forums? I'm a bit late to the party but the S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 trailer brought me back.

I was hoping someone could direct me to where the config file is to change the decayed beyond use and damaged beyond use mechanics for monsters corpses? I'm assuming decay works on a timer and the other on how much overkill damage you do to it on death. I think these two are a bit harsh and would like to modify them to be a bit more forgiving rather then turn them off like vanilla CoP. I just hate wasting my ammo when hunting and also loosing my loot because I was attacked by a pack of dogs and ran out of time.

Using version 2.21 FYI

These forums are always active. I don't know exactly where that is determined, if it is not based upon the removal time settings. The removal time settings were changed from the vanilla 1 hour to 2 hours, but cannot be extended beyond that without grossly impacting performance and stability. There are simply too many objects on the map for the engine to keep track of. So, if you are going to hunt, choose you location wisely, and not in the vicinity of bloodsuckers, dogs, snorks, etc.

I will poke around a little and see if I can find anything further and amend my answer if I do.

Wow, I think I actually found it...

You need to edit C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalker Call of Pripyat\gamedata\configs\plugins\itms_manager.ltx

decay_time = 2100 ;Seconds until cannot loot decayed corpse

That may not be the only factor. I would increase it by a factor of 10 until you are happy, so 2100 would become 21000

See if it works.

Good to know this game and community is still alive. Thanks for the help.

Are the removal settings in Real Time or in game time because it feels like you have about 5 mins to harvest a corpse before you cant loot it, and even if its in game time, wouldn't the corpse just disappear after 2 hours rather then become unlootable?

As per your advice I have switched to hunting at the edges of the map and have had less trouble with monsters stopping me looting, still occasionally get the whole too damage to be of use thing but I'm trying a shotgun shell first and if they don't die a few pistol bullets to finish em off to see if that helps stop that.

The normal setting of 2100 seconds would be 35 minutes of game time, which is 3.5 minutes of real time IIRC. Make it 21000 and you should have a half an hour to clear the vicinity of predators. Of course, that is also enough time for hostile NPC's or another round of predators to filter in.

Disclaimer: I never hunt personally. I'm told some adopt the tactic of following groups of NPC's around when THEY hunt and looting their kills while they attack anything that threatens.

There are plenty of spots where fewer predators are present and you could do some hunting as well.

Happy Hunting, Stalker!

Thanks, I tried setting it to 21000 and have had no problems with mutant bodies decaying beyond use before I've had time to kill any threats anymore.

Yeah hunting is a bit of a low risk low reward playstyle (mostly) but I used it to get my first few guns and a suit I can take artefact hunting, plus I find it fun to do in-between tasks to pass in-game time.

The only problem I tend to have now it the "mutant parts too badly damaged to be of use" message I sometimes get and the inability to exit the mutant looting UI once entered without doing the long harvesting animation. I used to think the too badly damaged mechanic was due to overkill damage, then I thought maybe it was due to the amount of projectiles that it was hit with, so I was in the middle of testing this out when it crashed so I reloaded and realised that it works on probability as I was now able to loot a body a couldn't before. I then tested to see if the loot available on the corpse was created on looting or on death and now I realise why you cant exit the looting UI because it doesn't save the inventory and instead creates the loot as you do it.

The problem now is the temptation to save-scum for better/more loot is quite high.

Thanks again for the help and the tips.

Killing NPC's yields Much better loot, and no animations to wait on...
