Hello all,

im currently playing as sniper and found calibration tools in the bathrooms of the River Port in pripyat. im curious since I havent found them there as recon and assaulter.

€: I found all the tools in zaton and jupiter before of course, so I was wondering what they are doing there..

I think they are leftovers, dump them. They weigh a lot and nobody will buy them. Now the FREE KSVK 12.7 is another matter altogether :D

As Sniper for sure. In an unmarked open location next to a camp fire. There's a cheap knockoff version of a Vintor too. A lot of people miss it.

In the Kindergarten?

Yes, was excited at first but it's not close to being as good. Still fun to find new stuff.

It's a bit of a MISERY easter egg; it was the original unique starting weapon of the Recon Class in 1.0. Also nearby is a few other stashes including the Rebirth hypodermic and the USS training manual; all of which belonged in a new game inventory in 1.0.

I actually spent a lot of time between classes trying to establish if there were official "starter stashes" containing the old designated starting gear from 1.0 and whether they were class specific etc. No avail however. I think the kindergarten stash was just thrown in.

I'm sure some stuff they just forgot to remove from 1.0 to 2.0. I remember your postings about it. I missed playing 1.0. Love this mod though.

Haha yeah I was clutching at straws, desperate to find meaning in it! It's not so much that they forgot to remove stuff; in 1.0 it wasn't ever available outside of Recon and was listed as 'unique' so it's definitely been added in 2.1 with purpose. I was just hoping there would be more to it...sigh.

I know what you mean... I think the undertaking was monumental enough without having to squeeze a lot of extra meaning out of the game too :D When I found the extra Calibration tools I was so stoked thinking these have really got to be worth some cash ... I lugged them all the way back to Zaton/Jupiter only to find they were wasted weight. I guess it's cool in case someone just couldn't find one of the other sets somehow.

There are 2-3 fires, maybe inside the movie theater? It's been a while, but it's in that corner of the map.

If you want to have some fun, you can tweak the ammo for that anti-materiel rifle so it actually works like IRL. Edit the weapons file in the weapons folder. Find your ammo_12.7x108_ap and change the
k_pierce = 1.06
k_ap = 0.69 to both be 10 or 11. You'll be able to shoot 2 Exo clad NPC's dead with one shot or shoot through steel plate or a foot thick concrete wall or pillar and kill whatever is behind it. I spent about a half hour lining up a shot so I could pick off 2 at a time. The third guy was looking around like what, what the eff ... priceless.

So is it actually confirmed that some stashes have different stuff in them for each class?

nice im gonna try that! the absolute bullet protection of wood and other thin materials is a little unreal but I guess the engine has its limits...even though the upgraded KVSK is very awsome, oneshot everyone. by far the best rifle because of the zoom you can even use it for mid ranges...by far better then the green gragon or similar which rarely oneshot someone unless a headshot or the AP ammo...

I remember during my time in the army we were having a manouver in urban combat and our group was doing cover fire for the advance with a couple of MG's from our kompanie. on a hill "saddle" about 150m next to us was the sniper squad with 2x G82 + 2 spotters. I remember the fucking thunder sound everytime they fired and the MG3 isnt that quiet either..I think they were using 12.5 or 12.7 mm as well those things must shoot off like a small tank or something

Yeah, not super realistic as a haul around weapon because it's so heavy and awkward to move. It's a bit like the Machine gun Zulu carries around which is almost only used mounted on a vehicle or in a fixed position bunker. It sure can do some damage. The engine does allow materiel penetration, I would guess they keep the penetration lower for game difficulty, probably a good idea. It's too much power to haul around. I had to see if it could really do it in game so I played with ammo settings. I figured if snorks claws can rape me though a brick wall I wanted to try penetrating one myself.

Actually crying with laughter and nodding in agreement!

The only downside of tweaking a weapon or ammo is the opponents gain the same benefit, but I've never actually seen an NPC carrying a KSVK ;D
