Playing as Assaulter and currently have Bulat and Sphere 12. I also have the SSP99M helmet... Now, I just went into the landslide anomaly (south of the big digger) to place the mutant scanner (where the snorks rush at you) and in the 10-15s I was in the area, I lost 35% on my bulat due to it's low thermal resistance. Should I wait until I've upgraded it fully, or should I be wearing an orange scientist suit for this kind of thing?

You will definitely fare much better in red suit or seva. Actually, wasn't the green one much better for thermal? I used to play first half of game in green suit. Lousy for cammo, but as long as you dodge the bullets it gets you through anomalies great. I heard of guys taking their armor off and popping a stimpack and run in-out to rescue Petruha so they wouldn't destroy their low end armor. That's hard core :D

Yeah the green binliner has quite a lot more thermal resistance than the red one. The red one is still pretty good but the green one makes you almost immune even to stepping right on top of a Burner, and it seems to degrade more slowly in the heat too.

I found the SEVA is decent as long as you're quick. If you stay in a thermal field long enough for the suit to get damaged a bit, it actually starts to let the heat in and kill the player, so it's best to be in and out ASAP. SEVA + thermal resistance artifact is safer.

Ah OK thanks all. I got impatient and purchased the orange SSP-99 Eco from the scientist bunker for ~79kRU. I still have a good 100kRU left so I may get the SEVA suit yet. The problem with the BULAT is that it only has 1, max 2, slots, but on the other hand, the SSP-99 has not upgrade options (I'v read that appears later in the game?).

So should I sell everything I have, or keep the Bulat+Sphere12 for combat and the SSP-99 for artefact hunting/science quests? Then just skip out the SEVA nad buy an exo in pripyat?

That's pretty much what I do. I buy the green suit as soon as I can because it's super for anomalies and I just avoid bullets in my original gear until I can afford one. It has FIVE artifact slots so you can boost your stamina, add Kevlar or whatever else to help deflect bullets. There are no upgrading costs, so it actually saves you quite a few Rubles. If you need to be sneaky, it does stick out like a sore thumb, but you can avoid pissing off everyone except the mercs and bandits and it's fun to kill them anyway :D There aren't many real limitations on the style you can choose to play. You can make it as hard on yourself as you prefer. The end game is the only place where it's real hard to survive without good bullet protection.

Does suit colour camouflage actually work in this game/mod?

It's very well implemented in forthcoming release. I assume if I can see them easily, they can see me. It doesn't work that way in 2.1.1, but much more realistic in next release. If you like to sneak, great things are coming ...

Mar 11 2015 Anchor

Cool. Sorry to ask, but is there a rough ETA? It could time nicely with my completion of this 2.1.1 playthrough :)

The team are perfectionists and ironing out last minute finishing touches to some new stuff. I'm sure they all want to get back to their wives and kids as much as we all want at the finished project :D I would be out of place to say more soon ...

Mar 11 2015 Anchor

Thanks, looking forward to it :)

It's funny, I bet if I went to vanilla CoP, it would feel like an arcade game... Have really enjoyed the challenge of MISERY, but now I have decent gear, it's getting a bit easier. Like I'm still wiped out in a few shots, but I adapted to the game style now and have learned to not rush in like I might have previously. Have to say, I've missed STALKER games, and it's been nice playing it maxed out at good FPS on this GTX670...

I played the original game for 20 minutes while I was downloading full version of Beta and was amazed at how much easy loot and weapons there were in stashes I never discovered in years of playing before misery. Just the promise of new stashes in Misery made me look harder and I found at least 10-12 I never knew existed before.

It's been so long since I played that I can't remember any of the original ones anyway. I've found a lot of stashes in Zaton, and about 15 in Jupiter. Really tempted to find a map showing where they all are, but I don't want to ruin the surprise... haha

Besides the marked stashes there are odd boxes of ammo and stuff all over. It's worth exploring, especially buildings. They hide a little something here and there to reward you for seeking. The only places where I know there are a number of stashes that I just don't always search and plunder anymore is by the zombie village in Jupiter. The cost of treating the radiation and chance of getting eaten by something while you're squinting through the radioactive haze deters me.

A bit off topic, but do they still sell normal original Strongbow Cider over there? They ruined it in the states ... put honey and stuff in it Razz

Don't go with Orange or Green Scientist suits, they make you feel like wearing alum foil in gun fights. Seva and exo later game are much stiffer choice. At least you can survive the first couple of rounds or bites before your health bar reach critical point. As for artifact I can't say much since mine is heavily modified for my own taste. But honestly Misery made them close to obsolete you might as well go with other attachments where is much safer and cheaper to purchase.

Mar 11 2015 Anchor

Yeah I'm always hunting around in bushes. My rule of thumb - if there is a pipe that you can climb onto and strafe along to a roof, chances are, there's a stash there. Just like the one at the container warehouse in Jupiter.

They do indeed. In cans, bottles an on the tap. I'm more of a lager drinker myself :D

Perhaps a stalker related cider image?

See now there is a whole class of post-apocalyptic weapons Misery and Stalker games skipped - Bows and Crossbows. Virtually silent and go though any armor. It would be gratifying to pin a merc or Hermann to a wall with a crossbow bolt :D Some brewery bought the distribution rights here and they had some committee decide on two "better" taste profiles and they discontinued the top selling beverage in the class. More reason to travel ....

Mar 11 2015 Anchor

Haven't they also lowered the alcohol content for imported drinks over there? Imported they can't be more than 3.5% or somerthing?

Nah, actually almost all micro-brews are at least 5-6%. Budweiser Select is 10%. All ciders at least 5%. There's a ton of light beers, but I never touch the stuff. I'll drink wine before light beers. This is making me thirsty, going to have to kill some bad guys to burn it all off...

This. Hermann needs pinning in place so he stops walking away from me when I'm trying to trade.

Amen.

I'd vote for bow and crossbow. They are my primary weapon in Skyrim the elder scroll. I doubt Stalker engine can handle such weapon, but it would be very awesome bonus in the future if the new game came out with it.

I did however seen a mod made for Clear sky, someone added damage type to different weapons and ammo. (don't know how myself but I can give it a shot) I only remember clearly there were weapons and ammo with heavy radiation damage, whoever gets hit also gets unhealthy amount of radiation acting as poison. Ammo with electro damage and acid damage very much like anomoly.
I think this might be good addition to Misery.

I thought I was the only one that got infuriated by this haha

You've shot the OTs-14 Groza, right? That's got more bullet drop than a home made toy bow! :D

Regarding ammo. I only used my first incendiary grenade yesterday. I still have used any incendiary rounds yet, but they are my favourite type in Mass Effect 3 MP :D

OTs firing 5.56x39mm use to be my fav weapon. Since I got hooked on KSVK I can't let it go, and it is too freaking heavy to be combined with other guns on a trip.
Once you found Famas in game, I think it has very high fire rate, pretty much melt through anything that's in front of its barrel.

Mar 12 2015 Anchor

I'm sticking with my full upgraded AEK971 :D Want to use the PKM but it's just so damn heavy. I might take it to a bandit/merc camp, go all rambo on them and waste 500 rounds then bin it :D

Mar 16 2015 Anchor

The weapon external ballistics in this engine are actually quite impressive, probably why it's especially attractive to a shooter like myself who has been fortunate enough to be able to compare how Misery's implementation compares to the real thing. I always, for example, modify the AN-94 to fire at the actual 1800rpm but remove the full auto setting leaving semi and the weapon's unique to use 2rd burst...

I think a crossbow would be interesting, but it would have to be a very high draw weight to be feasible which means that the reload would have to be done using your foot as an anchor resulting in a very slow to reload weapon, which would be worthwhile if the stealth could be improved. Also for hunting if one of the scripters made it so that looting a mutant killed by a crossbow would have a 50-70pct chance of giving you back a bolt. Each bolt would need to cost $200 or so at least to balance it out.
