NPC armor? (Games : S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat : Mods : MISERY : Forum : General subjects : NPC armor?) Locked

On starting a new game in v2.1.1 I find some of the NPCs to be like recurring "regulars" until something kills them. I like to go to great lengths to protect my fellow stalkers as well, by giving them some modified weapons to use.

The problem is this. I can give them weapons all day long and they will use them or not. BUT! I drop armor for them that is better than they use and they do not seem to wear it...this is a problem I cannot figure out.

Question:

Can NPCs use dropped suits of armor or not?

Anyone care to find out? Would be nice if there is a way to drop the suit for them to use =D

Npcs can't use armour, they've got what they've got and that's it. To help them survive, you can give them weapons, ammo, grenades, and health items, though you need to sell them them the last three.

Crap...but thanks for the info. I see the little buggers picking up my arms that I drop for them like vacuum. But I wasn't sure about the other items.

So you have seen them use ammo and health items?

It is difficult to test this for me. On the one hand I don't want them to die and other is that they have to get hurt but not bad enough to die in order to use those things. Plus assume they did NOT have them before you gave them to them >_>

Kinda bothersome unless I look through the code and I find that kinda tricky -_-

Well you could check their inventories then save your game, kill them search them to see what else they had, then reload, that way you know exactly what they had on them.

But anyway, npcs use ammo, if you go into options and untick 'infinite npc ammo', they will run out and use a side arm. You'll see a lot of battles with handguns now lol many at long range. Also, if you turn on debug mode, you can gather info about npcs and their ammo and health etc.

I've personally seen them use bandages, there's an animation for it. As for medkits, have you not had to help a wounded Stalker before? Have you not seen a wounded Stalker on the ground and another runs up, bends over him and then they both get up and walk away? Medkit baby!

The only problem is they don't pick up these things, you have to sell them.

Found them not interested in using the bought goods. But they did pick everything up like a vacuum lol

Also a side note to what you mentioned in another thread. Siding with either freedom or duty, they do actually shoot on sight. It even says this when you become a "friend" of the faction.

Maybe you have your game tweaked a little differently mate. =)

That always makes me laugh. Just drop any old crap on the ground and they come running over to grab it. "Oh wow, bad ammo and snork hands? JACKPOT! I gotta get me some of that!"

They usually seem to go hostile on me too if I get Friend of X for their enemy faction, and that's without me taking any hostile action towards them. However they don't *always* do it right away. For example, last time I got Friend of Duty I went to the cement factory and watched Kremen (preset Freedom NPC in Exoskeleton) fight a swarm of mutants. He didn't turn on me and I was able to speak to him normally after. But then when I was around that same area later, three random Freedom stalkers started shooting at me unprovoked.

People report different experiences both for Misery and for Vanilla, so I don't know what's going on. I'll need to take a proper look through the game files some time to find out.

In order to allow a Stalkers to equip items you sell them you need to edit the file m_stalker.ltx in the creatures directory.

first find and set the lines below to:
can_select_items = on
use_single_item_rule = off

That's actually one of the most annoying things about this mod. They hog all the weapons during the firefights and then if you kill them all the taken weapons disappear and you only get what the NPC originally had. I feel so ripped off sometimes by these features.

I actually like that feature. You dont just have to be tactical and acurate when killing NPCs, but you alsow have to be pretty fast if you want to get the most out of the firefight. Alsow, their compulsive behavior in looting everything on the ground can be an advantage for the player. I once took around 80% of the large merc camp in Zaton by just wounding down a guy with a supressed sniper. Almost every merc in that camp came out in the open to grab his gun and give him a medkit. They all died trying. XD

But I like to take my time during firefights and then reap the spoils ;_; this just makes it all for nothing

I'm mostly with you. That drive by suck all the weapons up in a flash is why I've been figuring out how to keep the Gauss from being scooped up. I do wish they could make them mosey a little. Those duty guys in the ranger station mission have some nice equipment and it's a challenge to get to the better guns first. BTW I think I figured out how to protect the Gauss Moddb.com

The item id's need to be attached as others have mentioned. I could care less when npc's pick up items as long as when you poppem off you can get what they grabbed....or buy it, whichever.

I dig trading, except the prices....like are double when dealing with other stalkers. Man that sucks =(
