Mod does not restart after closing game Thread - MISERY mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Hi all,

I'm new to MISERY but old to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., really love the mod! That said, I do have a single tiresome issue that hinders me in properly optimising the video settings of the game: the mod generally does not restart after closing it. In order to apply changed video settings the x-ray has to be restarted but for some reason the game does not run again. I have to restart my pc almost every single time I change video settings..

It seems to have something to do with the tmp.ltx and user.ltx in either/both the _appdata_ of COP installation or in the userdata folder of the MISERY installation folder. I've been messing around based on the VideoOptimization.pdf (https://www.dropbox.com/s/xq0wrwyucu1b8zu/VideoOptimization.pdf?dl=0), trying to delete some or all of those files with varied results; sometimes I could then restart the game again, sometimes I had to restart windows again..

I wonder what I'm doing wrong or can change to prevent this from happening because I'm growing pretty tired of it.

When following the procedure in the pdf exactly I'm still not able to restart the game. I still have to restart my pc.

Then your computer is incapable of handling whatever mode you are trying to start it in. Deleting the tmp file prevents the game from reverting to the prior settings (ones which presumably allowed the game to start).

If you just delete the two files, and restart the game, it will start with a clean copy of the file from inside the .db and will start in static lighting. Try a new renderer (static, direct lighting, dx11, etc.) You will not need to restart the computer unless you have locked it up hard.

If you specify your hardware specs, I may be able to tell you which settings are most likely to work (CPU, GPU, memory).

Sometimes the exe file fails to close for me too. You don't need to restart your PC though, you can open the task manager and find stalker_cop.exe and end the task.
