Your CPU is barely above the vanilla game's requirements, although, Windows 10 spreading the load across cores will help some. Here is an article geared towards slower CPU's/Laptops. Dropbox.com You have plenty of RAM and strong enough GPU. At your resolution, we should be able to get your FPS up a bit.

What alife.ltx switch_distance did you choose on setup? I don't recommend higher than the default 300 meters for you. You may need to run at 250 or 200. Your hard drives will slow you down a good bit too since neither is an SSD.

There is one particular setting which seems to be pretty CPU intensive....trying to remember what it's called. It's to do with the sun rays...,maybe it is called sun rays? Try turning them down.

In order: AA, Shadows, Sun Rays, and Dynamic Lighting are the four biggest performance killers besides AI. You need some level of dynamic lighting to get all the aim points to work properly, but any of the rest you can do without will save you FPS.

Raising your alife.ltx switch_distance to 750 was the cause or the fix? What are you at now?

Jul 11 2016 Anchor

55-60 inside 45-50 outside zaton central still is the only place that gives me 37 fps

What is your switch distance now? What was it before?

Oct 21 2016 Anchor

I have the switch distance set at 550 and while it doesn't produce low fps, the game stutters whenever I come into range of an abundance of Alife. Goes away when my CPU is done having a heart attack.

That is normal. Some of the poor tree models which caused many to have poor performance in their vicinity have been replaced with AN4 being added to Misery 2.2. The AI level in Misery is simply much higher than the original game, the default switch_distance is more than double that of the original game including, if my grammar school math skills haven't utterly been lost, at least 9X as much alife. Combining higher populations with 9X the volume is a load for any system. When you extend your switch_distance even further ...

Thanks for the insight Jasper. I couldn't, in good conscience have it any lower because it would be unfair that I could see the enemy but they don't see me (insert every other video game here)

Very much looking forward to 2.2!

The NPC's can only see 225 or 250 meters. 2.2's camouflage system does vary the effects of camo and NPC detection ranges if you choose a higher or lower switch_distance. If you increase the range, their vision becomes better. It is not that way in 2.1.1.

Hmm, I didn't know that. I suppose it still good because a large portion of the zone's inhabitants are fighting amongst themselves whether I'm there or not. Makes the zone feel alive!

The main down side to higher switch_distance settings is key NPC's are at greater risk of leaving their spawn points chasing after mutant/NPC squads which spawn father away and get drawn down within eye range. More Gigants and Chimera will wander from the far corners into 'town' so to speak and wipe things out. We have made great strides in protecting the key NPC's from killing the story by premature deaths, but the Zone is a dangerous place and nothing is perfect. I have a very high end rig and still don't use higher than 400-450 usually anymore. I'm not pushing you to a lower distance, just letting you know what the ramifications may be.

I don't know about you but I quite like how the spawns migrate so vigorously. It means I can't rely on the position of anything and enemies can, and do quite frequently come from nowhere. A few days ago I encountered a Pseudo-Giant outside Skadovsk that was seemingly, intentionally waiting for me and my fat sack of loot to come shuffling around the corner, it didn't end well for me. Fighting against enemies that are spread so far and wide makes the experience far more dynamic and random for me. Everyday is different, and the prospect of you getting shot in the back of the head by a fragmented patrol makes the whole affair much more engaging.

As you said, the zone is a dangerous place. I cannot argue that these situations wouldn't or shouldn't be plausible in such a hostile environment. And while this presents an obvious threat to essential NPC's, I don't think I'd want it any other way. Though I was saddened to learn my old friend, who in my experience is ill-prepared for his surroundings, died for the 8th time in succession. But I have come to think of Noah's expected death, not as bad luck, but rather a disaster waiting to happen. By no means a fault in the mod, although some additions seem to have compounded the issue.

That's pretty much how I feel, but some people get devastated if they can't obtain every little achievement. So, I make sure to warn them ;) Happy hunting Stalker!

Good deal :) Maybe you can post your settings and rig setup in the hardware section so others can easily find it and benefit from your solution.

How would I do that?
