Is it possible to enable mini-map and make it detect only friendly/green colored people ? I think this would be realistic, since it would be helpful for friendly stalked to identify each other on the field.

How hard would it be to implement that ?

You can turn on the IFF in your hud making the cursor color tell you friend/foe/neutral. Edit the user.ltx in the _appdata_ directory: hud_info on

Thanks Jasper, but my idea was showing only friendlies (green) on the mini-map and no other info. Is it possible ?

For example: I've just befriended Freedom. I think it would be realistic for them to share their GPS positions with me in the case I need some backup out in the field. Got it ?

They are just NOT enemies, they will not come to your assistance AFAIK. It might be possible for someone to mod it, but it's not the direction they intended with this mod hence the distance and IFF stuff being turned off by default in the HUD. Without any assistance coming from your 'allies', having to figure out which bodies on the minimap are your friendlies and which that you see are not would negate any benefit in my opinion. If you were going to have a minimap at all you would want both friend/foe displayed on it. With all the background radiation and anomaly interference, pings from transponders would have very little chance of being reliably rendered IRL. Even satellite surveillance picking up IR to show bodies wouldn't reliably pick up transponders in that sort of environment.

Hmmm... I could swear the "Friend of..." achievements made factions more prone to help you out in the field. I even thought it was explicitly written in the achievements text descriptions. May be just an erroneous impression though.

By the way, in Misery 1 it was possible to get friendlies to actually follow you like a team on the field. I did this myself constantly. Did they ditched it in Misery 2 ?

Most achievements have little or no effect other than Freedom = Friend makes Duty = Enemy. Other than getting other parties to incidentally gun down something that is chasing you I've never received any assistance from Green/Friends. They are just as likely to hit you as the mutant that's chasing you. I never played Misery 1. I couldn't say it's ever occurred to me to try and get others to join me. I always feel bad if I can't get the whole team through the tunnels intact even though they usually kill each other with friendly fire more than mutants get them. It would be a pretty cool feature if you could call on allies in a real pinch. Maybe a once a game panic button to call in a favor.

I do not have this feature in my eyes. Why should I know if someone is friendly or not?

If I see their gear and I know they are in the A-Life for the general map area I am located in. I tend not to shoot. If they do not shoot at me. I do not shoot at them. Otherwise shoot if shot at. Nuff said =)

Wizard,

In Misery 1 (and vanilla, I think) you had a mini-map with little dots that represented stalkers/bandits/mercs/etc near you.

These dots were colored according to your relation to them (green for friendlies, yellow for neutral, red for hostiles).

This was helpful because it showed whether some guy approaching you were friend or foe.

Now, I see how this feat is unrealistic. But it could be realistic, IMO, if only friendlies showed up in the mini-map. In fact, I think it is cited in some game (I think Shadow of Chernobyl) that stalkers actually use GPS on the field to locate one another. (that's the in-game reasoning behind the mini-map).

Now, answer honestly: If you were a real stalker in a real Zone, wouldn't you want to share your GPS location with your friends, for safety considerations ? That's my point. ;)
