Game crashes with DX11 enabled | Locked | |

I've been running the mod (with administrator rights) with DX11 enabled just fine for a couple of weeks. Then I had a crash (as is normal with this disaster of a game engine) and now, all of a sudden, the game crashes when I try to enable DX11. I get booted out to the desktop and then the game just shows as a small, black screen in the corner of my screen. Very odd. I've tried deleting user.cfg and tmp.cfg but to no avail. I GOTTA be able to get this working again without reinstalling everything. Prior to this I had made NO changes to my system at all. Nada. Any tips? Odd. It's empty. |

It happens, try the fix at the bottom of the note here Dropbox.com Since your log is empty, it could be something else, but that might get you running again |

I'm sorry for being a noob here, but...what is switch distance..? Btw, I tried manually setting the resolution to 1920x1080 in the user.cfg and it worked. But as soon as I try to mess with ANYTHING else graphics related in the game menu it crashes to a black screen and I can't even shut down the game through the task manager. Still no crash log. It's as if the game doesn't know it's crashing. I don't get why everything all of a sudden went full retard. It was working perfectly...??? What the hell is happening...?!? I just wanna continue playing this awesome mod......! Edited by: Mudd |

You can find explanation of switch_distance in the FAQ Themiserymod.com I suggest trying some of my optimization instructions for fool proof ways to change settings without problems Moddb.com Once everyone accepts that this version of xray is more than 8 years old and the game will not behave as typical 2017 AAA titles on the same hardware you can make the needed adjustments and get the game running smoothly. A half hour of optimization can make the whole experience much better. |

OK, thanks. I'm not exactly sure how but I got it working again. Changed the resolution manually in user.cfg and started the game up. Then I switched to DX11 and applied it and quit. Then I started the game up again and loaded my game. Then I played for a couple of hours and then I changed the advanced settings to get better fps. It worked. And in a couple of days it'll probably fuck up again lol. |

Now that it is working, delete your tmp.ltx and copy your user.ltx into same folder, rename the copy tmp. If you have a crash, the game reverts to the tmp.ltx settings. If they are right, you are good. If they are wrong, you have problems again Happy hunting! |

OK, I did that. Hope it helps! |

DX11 is in general unrecommended for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, just play abit lower you won't lose that many visuals as the game from ground up was made with static light in mind and etc. |

I recommend it above everything except static lighting. Every system is different ... GPU drivers are quite finicky. To know, you have to try everything out and compare for your system; I recommend that to everyone. You must follow logical procedures when you do try Dropbox.com |
