So I am friends with Freedom, and now every duty squad shoots on sight. If I give documents from the Jupiter plant to the Duty leader, will that improve relations, or will they always be hostile now?

Solution #1: Shoot back.

Solution #2: Shoot more freedoms, perhaps Duty will like you more when you got big pile of freedom bodies.

Solution #3: Edit the Relation file and change them to neutral. Works but not recommended.

If you still have chances to do more side quests you can side with Duty, but honestly I say grow a pair and start shoot everybody. I just recently modified my game into perma heavy fog, I can't tell what's what so whatever moves I will open fire. A lot more loots this way.

Cool I'll stick to #1 :D

It's better financially to aggravate one or the other. Fence sitting making nice with everybody is so boring and there's little to loot :D When you are ready, you can piss everyone except the stalkers off for more fun.

I side with Duty one game, with Freedom next game, then Duty again, then Freedom then ... well, you get the point. :P
I don't hate either faction and I had lots of situations where those guys would help me in a tight spot. I kindda 'rotate' allegiance but always chose one side because it allows for more fights/loot then going neutral. Also, I always go ballistics when doing any mission dealing with bandits. I always join stalkers, shoot bandits/mercs on sight. Real fun part starts when you get gauss rifle and Monolith starts showing up in all 3 regions.

Indeed. Especially when you are well geared, not much to be afraid of anyways. The only advantage for being neutral with certain faction for me is that I can walk closer and look at their weapon, then I can decide if I want to take it by force. Found quite few goodies this way.

in previous stalker games Duty was tougher, so I usually sided with freedom to have more challenging fights. There is also a tendency towards weapons in the faction, Freedom using more NATO ammo and weapons, Duty using more Soviet weapons..so dependent on which weapons you like to use more it makes sense to set your enemies accordingly. (If you use 5.56 ammo then side with duty as you will kill and loot freedom guys)

In Misery this changed somewhat, even though I think the factions still have their favourite weapons...(duty camo AN and freedom camo ZMR or what its called)

I still feel that Duty is slightly stonger, at least in Manpower..its not rare to have a squad of 4 exo guys, more then often there can be 6-10 dutys in an area like the cooling tower in jupiter.

So I usually side with freedom, since uncle yars mission gives a unique add to freedom reputation. I almost always take the man of balance and diplomat achievements to get best vendor/repair prices. (sell morgans pda to owl) at around half way trough jupiter I start shooting everything anyways, even with high tier sniper scopes its rare that you can identify a faction over a distance of 300m anyways...there are mercs with stalker patches on their arms and plenty of stalkers wearing bandit trenchcoats.

However even though shooting everything Stalkers have never treated me hostile after reaching all the achievements with them..

Bonesetter - You look a touch pale, how about a little injection or two?

Duty give better armour rewards IMO.

The two basic Duty and Freedom outfits are pretty similar, just variations on the Sunrise suit. The light Duty suit is better armoured, the Wind of Freedom has more containers.

The final two suits are very different though. The Guardian of Freedom is really just a Berill. It's OK, you could take it through the end-game but it's nothing jaw-dropping. The heavy Duty armour on the other hand is a beast, it has the second highest protection in the game, better even than a Bulat and not far off an Exoskeleton, and comes with a ton of upgradeable systems. Combine it with a fully upgraded M12 helmet and I think it's on a par with an Exo.

This. Today as a Friend of Freedom I was doing that first Scientist mission in the train tunnel, and four Duty guys (two in Exos and one in a radsuit) opened fire on me from the cooling tower as soon as I got there, and another squad of four rocked up from the edge of the swamp to join in. And of course Topol and his guys just stood there like lemons while I was getting shot at...

I have had some hairy encounters with Freedom in the past too, like around the Cement factory, including big squads of Exos, but they just don't seem as common.
