Hey guys.

At first i want to say Thanks alot for this awesome mod the only thing what sucks in the moment is the difficulty.I played COP 2 years ago and reinstalled it with Midery mod.But for now this mod is for me Frustrating like hell. im Pressing Quickload more then i Tap the Jump-Key. I remember in Old version i was able to decrease the difficulty in Menu.

I pump 3 Mags as Recon in my enemy(Mercenary) and he is still alive ? Is this normal? Other Problem i get Shot from distance while its heavy foggy. I even cant see the guy who is shooting me. Im dying over and over again. 2 Headshots with an SMG are not deadly in real? Even an SMG will penetrate a Skull.

Is there a Mod for Misery to decrease the difficulty? Or how can i do this my self ?

EDIT: I installed the Easymode but i i feel not much difference.

Thanks in Advance.

Kind regards

Chris.

Hola.

To begin with, you are not using quick saves, do you? They can eventually become corrupted and ruin all your walkthrough.

And about combat difficulty. It is normal and you just need to get used to it. You are not supposed to kill everything right from the very beginning of the game. Every target need proper equipment. Man in exo or "exo underwear" here can sustain many regular SMG rounds, even via headshots. There are AP rounds right for those mans, for example.

Rookie mode is a little easier, but Misery is meant to be more difficult. It can't be played in the spray and pray style so to speak. The armors and ammo have armor pierce ratings. They are a good guide as to what to attack (or flee/avoid) until you are better equipped. Choices are key in Misery: What to attack or avoid, which missions to do first (anomalies are much stronger too and should be completely avoided without proper gear).

Like all mods, Misery is not for everyone. If you were finding CoP at Master difficulty too easy then you will find Misery refreshing and much more enjoyable to play over and over. The economy (the main change in rookie mode) is not difficult once you adjust your style. Like most games you will struggle early on, especially if you are not wise in your choices. I believe after you adjust to the new mechanics, features, and style you will, like most, never want to walk away. There is a tips section you may find helpful.

If it proves too much for you, thank you for checking out the mod and taking the time to leave some feedback. Happy hunting Stalker :D

I'm a newbie too on Misery (30days in the zone, just arrived in Pripyat). On Rookie difficulty, Sniper.

At start I also found it very difficult. I desactiveted AI aim in options as I was killed by ennemies I could barely see (and because my aiming skill is low...). It has still enough challenge for me.

I also was confused by so much objects. I finally get used to it even if I certainly under use some part of the mod (I have no idea how to use artefacts, too much stats I get confused. just selling.)

The Hints topics helped me a lot. It gives you directions on what to avoid at start.

Most important thing to start misery I guess is to read.

Things like the fact that non armor percing bullets won't do shit against humans. Or how you wanna sustain yourself, food-wise. You'll learn these by talking with people, reading descriptions.

Actually the most difficult thing to fight in misery is the economy. And that means taking cost effective engagements only.

So you'll have to try out things, learn what costs what. And that's a huge part of the fun.

Just as the above user mentioned, reading descriptions is a key to success. They give you the exact number of most of the things that you encounter.

Another key to success is knowing how to run. There are times that you have to run and never look back. (I'm actually talking about 6 snorks and 8 psuododogs and 4 regular dogs.)

Anyway, welcome to Misery. Every Stalker's death wish ;)

Awareness of your surroundings and knowing which battles to fight and which ones to avoid/run away from will be your biggest allies. Greed is your biggest enemy and must be kept in check if you want to survive.

Being out in heavy fog is bad news especially when it comes to mutants because you cannot see them coming. The super heavy fog never lasts long, so I'd recommend finding a good defensive position when you notice it coming in and just hang out for a couple mins, maybe sort your inventory/eat/whatever while you wait.

This. Especially bloodlust, which is a kind of greed. Misery is still an FPS so it's always tempting to shoot stuff for fun even when it's a smarter idea to retreat instead.

Yeah you really gotta run sometimes. Once I was at the jupiter power plant for the first time, with assault class. Clear sky suit, M12 helmet, RPK. After cleaning up the zombies, there were 2 chimeras and like 6 izloms. Then 3 burers. Then THREE F***ING POLTERGEISTS. By the times I got to the poltergeist I didn't have any ammo left, so I had to run without even looting the chimeras/burer/izlom. Lost a whole f***ing bunch of cash.

A half dozen grenade launcher shells will make life a lot easier when you run into the freak spawns that happen occasionally :D I hoard those things until they become available at the traders for when stuff happens. Zombies are bullet wasters. Avoid them if you don't have the leisure of picking them off with head shots to conserve ammo. Rushing up the stairs above the pit where the third Streylok's stash is will protect you from most and you can then rain down cheap hand grenades to thin out the opposition. Take a pink Psy block immediately followed by an epinephrine before mounting your assault. The epinephrine counters the side effects and allows you to quickly haul all that loot away :D Remember, weight carrying booster drugs are NOT cumulative. If you take an Epinephrine and drink a red bull after it drops you to the red bull's effects. You can waste a lot of cash popping 2-3 things at once.

I'm really waiting to encounter this... It's always the easiest for me :( (Two Controllers, a Polly, three bloodsuckers and a lot of zombies).

I've never encountered any random Chimera (Except once in my very first playthrough (Misery 2))...

I was in the elevated walkway once and saw a pseudodog running down the street so I lined up a shot ... then quickly forgot about him because 2 Chimera's (whats the plural of Chimera?) were chasing him. I thought, I'm safe I'll pick them off LOL. Do you know they can jump through the windows right onto the walkway. One swipe, I was dead. The next time as I was exiting onto the street between the buildings I see a dog running towards me ... This time there were 2 Gigants. I got the first with a grenade launcher and started retreating across the building and up few flights of stairs. You have to be a couple floors above them or the big stomp still gets you. I don't think I had even one full clip left when I limped back into Yanov :D Most of the time it is as you say. Maybe snorks one time, Burers another. The great thing is it always repopulates with a new spin of the dice selection of baddies.

A Chimera attacked me near the water way to Zaton. Good for him, bad for me, I didn't have my SVD at hand. There were two duty fellas on that long stair thing (Is that the walkway you mentioned?). I saw the Chimera climbing up with my own eyes! (Yep, Gigants do that too, but Chimies!). I heard gunshot, it was a Gigant (I learned a lesson: becareful what you wish for :D). I took out my knife and stabbed the Gigant in the face... He started chasing me :D The other stalker had the time to deal with him (My first random Team Work :D). The Gigant dropped a Gravi (Sold it 20k to Beard :D). After reaching Cement Factory again, the Chimie was still there... I pulled out my Remington and I loaded up these shells... That's Carrie Underwood, sorry ;). I pulled out my AS-VAL and started shooting...

My last five shots put him out of his Misery as he was ready to jump at me... My hands were still shaking...

No, I'm talking about the elevated walkway between the admin building and the next that crosses the road at the Jupiter plant. It has a couple of anomalies hanging down from the ceiling. I think you're talking about the cement tower. Yes, Burers, Chimeras and Gigants climb stairs. I had a Chimera attack me jumping up from the ground on that tower once too. You know how you mostly get that ping sound when you shoot through a fence or metalwork? It just kept trying to land a jump and I kept wasting ammo trying to get it first. Freedom get trapped up there all the time. Then again I pick them off all the time too :D

Oh, I see :D Now I remembered the Windows... Wait, they jumped through the windows into the walkway? Wow... They surely know how to calculate :D Chimies are awesome except if there's more than one, and it's night and raining :D I would rather fight five Gigants (a little bit exagerating) :D

Chimeras are rare spawns at the Iron Forest and Jupiter Plant, you'll see them occasionally but not often.

Pseudogiants seem more common but since those are aggressive towards many other mutants they sometimes just get killed by the other spawns there. This might happen off-screen if you have moved near (but not into) either of the above areas, and their corpses can have disappeared by the time you go there. Same goes for Izloms/Bloodsuckers - those two will try to kill each other, usually with the bloodsuckers winning.

Nov 5 2015 Anchor

I ran into a battle with 2 freedom squads against 2 chimeras dashing around alongside with some loners near the quarry at jupiter.

I was able to fight them off with the aid of the other stalkers - though most of them died a painful death.

I think Misery is not too hard at all. It's just requiring you to adjust to it's worldspace.

Misery gives us a small mercy when it comes to Chimeras, because Chimeras are set up to prioritize attacking human NPCs over the player.

I made a special game_relations file where all the mutants have actor as primary enemy and all others as just disliking a little ;) It's not really that much harder, but no more waiting for something else to kill it off, it's coming for you :D

Nov 7 2015 Anchor

The plural of Chimera is Chimerae, if I remember correctly. And if there's one thing that makes things hard, it's blitzing in like an idiot.

Nov 7 2015 Anchor

On my first encounter with a Chimera I just died. Since it was coming at me from very far away, I actually thought it could be some sort of mutated dog. But as it approached me with ridiculous speed, it became clear that it's way bigger than a dog. And then it jumped into my face. x)

Another funny encounter was when I was doing this jumping puzzle at that anomaly with the toxic water (I suppose you know what I mean) when suddenly 2 Chimerae approached. I rescued myself onto that platform that you can reach with the ladder there and hoped that they didn't make it to jump onto that. Luckily they didn't and eventually died in the acid water.

Nov 7 2015 Anchor

That puzzle is extremely annoying, so annoying that I hard save each and every single time I make a successful jump, to minimize the impact on my armour.

EDIT: Speaking of difficulty, I did the bloodsucker mission some time ago. I was leaving it to last, because the bloodsuckers in vanilla are annoying, so I didn't know what they were in Misery. But damn, they were easy as cake to beat. I'm not sure if it's just because I know how to dodge their hits, but once they're at close range, where their cloaks aren't effective, 2-4 shots of a SPAS or Maverick 88(whatever it was called) and they're done. I'm not saying I don't like it this way, though, xD

@Chesseeater: I think that's because they're kind of early game optimized regarding the difficulty. Early on they're pretty scary if you've got only an AK and Coat as armor. But later on they get rather piece of cake because it'll be much more forgiving if they manage to hit you. :)

Nov 7 2015 Anchor

The only thing I had at that time for armour was an Overcoat at -50% and a Sphere 08 Mask for protection. I also used a rule of thumb in Misery: Never let anything hit you, because your armour will degrade faster than an EBF gas-mask.

That is certainly the best plan of action, avoid as much striking of bullets, claws and teeth as possible :D Animals instinctively attack weak points like the backs of ankles, knees, and you throat. Armor is also weakest in those areas. Armor does much better against bullets than claws and knives. You can still push a knife through a kevlar vest while the much faster bullet is stopped (you hope). It's the overconfidence of surviving some first bullet strikes when you are equipped better late in the game that will kill you. One sneaky Snork or Chimera can end you in a split second if you lose awareness of your surroundings ... and the there are the suicide bombers :D
