Dark Mode on Steam Thread - MISERY mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

So recently I re-purchased CoP through Steam, since my new laptop lacks a CD drive as standard and, more importantly, my disc is starting to wear out and I'm worried it won't be able to survive much longer, plus it is nice having access to the Steam overlay which I couldn't do originally.

However, upon installing CoP on Steam and then re-installing Misery for the Steam version, when I booted up the game it said that I was running Dark Mode, despite choosing Normal during the installation process. This wasn't a problem I had when I played Misery on my original CoP version.

Has anyone else had this issue with the Steam version? Any workaround?

Did you install mod as administrator? Just install the mod that way, steam doesn't get along well with admin/compatibility settings. Also you need to open and start the vanilla game once before installing the mod. Use the all-in-one 2.1.1 install if you can. Make sure the mod installs to your steam library COP install and not to your original install if it is still on computer.

I also play on steam version but I never had it use options I didn't choose, including dark mode. However, my steam installation is not in 'Program files' folder so I don't have those protected files issues.
