I'm not sure where to put this so if it's in the wrong spot I'll move it.

Hey. I'm new to the forums but I've been using Misery for sometime now. Recently the game hasn't been changing graphical settings for some reason so my anti-aliasing isn't very good. I did a comparison with it on the highest and lowest setting but noticed no difference. Any ideas what's happening? I'll post my pc specs if you need them.

Thanks!

You need to delete tmp.ltx each time you change your video settings and copy user.ltx over into the same directory. Rename the copy tmp and your video settings will actually be applied. In other words, if user.ltx and temp.ltx are not exactly the same the settings you tick off in the configuration panel will not be properly applied.

Those files are in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stalker Call of Pripyat\_appdata_ if you are using steam.

Also, sometimes there is a bogus extra copy of user.ltx in the main COP directory. If you have one in the above directory, delete the one in the main directory. It's leftover from the original game install.

Thanks it worked!

But now there's a slight blur on distant objects. I have depth off too. Does it have to do with the ssao thing?

If you have a decent system, select the DX11 Extreme Preset, apply it. Before you exit, change SSAO to HBAO at the low level and adjust anything else you want apply again. Then do the thing with user.ltx. If you do that each time you apply new settings you can actually see what changes and decide what works best for you. I have a strong card, but still turn grass to minimum (makes it way easier to find corpses) and sun says/shadows off. I run everything else maxed out. HBAO is much less GPU load regardless of the GPU manufacturer. HDAO is extremely hard on performance.

Whats the DX11 preset under? Or is it when I'm installing the mod? I also can run everything maxed out I just don't like the distance blur thing.

It's the render type. Scroll all the way down to DX11, if your system doesn't like DX11 I recommend static lighting. Nothing in between runs very well in my opinion.

Mar 24 2015 Anchor

Wow I never knew that was there lol. Thanks for the help. Everything looks fine now

No problem. Happy hunting stalker!

I have another problem. Is there anyway to make the bloodsuckers not look shitty in static lighting and a way to fix the object/A.I being pitched black at a distance?

Thanks!

Define shitty ... They are only fully visible when they have no idea there is any danger near. The appear just as they attack and flicker on/off periodically as they chase or are being chased. I take it DX11 performance wasn't good enough? Can you get a screen grab of either or both (f12) and post them? The screenshots will be found in the _appdata_/screenshots directory. You don't have to use SSAO at all or sun shadows with DX11. Turning those off may enable DX11 to work well enough for you.

Bloodsucker looks about right. They go from pretty much invisible to half visible, to what they look like when they are about to suck you dry. The DX11 weird ghost images I've never experienced. What is your GPU and what settings are you using? Are you monitoring and/or limiting FPS? If so, how do your FPS differ between the modes?

Mar 29 2015 Anchor

I gotta go right now so I'll give you all of that tomorrow. Could you explain what you'd like a little more though? Thanks and talk to you tomorrow

Your Graphics card Model, CPU core speed, DDR quantity, Operating system 32/64 bit. When you installed what distance did you choose? You can check it by opening alife.ltx with notepad in the configs folder. Look for switch_distance = 300 or some other number followed by some semi-colons and other numbers. I only need the first number. In the configs menu what are all your advanced settings under video. Are you using a 3:4 or 16:9/16:10 monitor and at what resolution? If you have a program that displays your frames per second (FPS) what kinds of numbers are you seeing? I suggest Dxtory, it's free with a nag screen and you just go into the advanced options tab and choose the number of threads(cores) your cpu has and set your FPS limit to 30 to start. Minimize the program and open game. your FPS will display in corner.

Graphics card
Nvidia Geforce gtx 860

Processor
Intel Core i7-4710HQ @ 2.50GHz

Not sure what DDR is

Windows 8 x64

Changing the switch distance from the folder confused me before so I just copied part of it
switch_distance = 250 ; 300 ; 950 ; 150 ; 350 ; 450 ; 500 ; 550 ; 600 ; 850 metres ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

The in game menu?

Resolution
16:9 I think and at 1920x1080

FPS
In the video I uploaded in the bugs section I was around 30-40 fps. I was recording though and the software used eats fps.

DDR3 probably your Memory 6GB or better is good. Make it say switch_distance = 300; anything. Everything after the semi-colon is ignored, It's a good place to make notes like the original values. I think changing you FOV closer to the default ( I think 55?) will probably fix a lot. Your CPU's turbo frequency is decent. I'm not familiar with how easy it is to overclock that CPU. When you disable the internal GPU, it gives you nice room to boost a little without coming close to TDP (rated Total Disapated Power). If you check my profile you'll see what I was able to do with a much lesser CPU than yours. Since only one cores max speed counts in this game higher is better. The game generally doesn't seem to get along with windows 8. If you get it working smooth, please start a Windows 8 thread and share your success. Many reported diminishing FPS as play extends past 20 minutes.

Mar 30 2015 Anchor

Alright thanks. Any ideas on what I should do to fix the dx11 ghost problem?

I'll be on again tomorrow. Later

See if it's still there at default FOV, It may go away. Other than a not ready for old school games Windows 8 Driver possibly your FOV is the most likely culprit. They don't often bother to make drivers 100% compatible with older platforms. If FOV doesn't help, try windows 7 compatability mode. Nvidia may have a suggested graphics setting for Call of Pripyat, it's worth looking.

Mar 31 2015 Anchor

The fov or windows compatibility didn't work. Any thing else I could try?

You may be stuck with static lighting if it works. I looked in vain on Nvidia's site, but you could try a chat session with their support to get recommended settings for your GPU. That's a mobile GPU right? IF someone gave me a computer with windows 8 on it I would pay $79 for a copy of 7 x64 and downgrade. I wish you luck. Try every mode deleting your user.ltx each time and see if any agree with windows 8. Try it windowed, not full screen and see if that helps. It can be fun on Win 7 to find optimal settings for GPU, but almost everyone can find a sweet spot.

Alright. Thanks for the help

The BEST option, IF you have the computational grunt to push the pixels, is to use something like NV Inspector (or I suppose RadeonPro, although I never got my former CrossFire-X 290X Lightning's to work nearly as well as my 3x 780Ti KPE's or new 2x Titan X SLI), and FORCE ENABLE ('override application settings') the highest amount of SGSSAA (Sparse-Grid Super-Sample Anti-Aliasing) anywhere from 2x1/1x2 to 3x3 combined with JUST SMAA Injector and also FORCE ENABLE 'Transparency SSAA x8' to eliminate a LOOOOOOOT of the foliage aliasing and shimmering (as well as incredibly clean, un-aliased power lines, chainlink fences, etc).

It doesn't work in DX11 mode tho as far as I know....

Apr 21 2015 Anchor

It seems like I'm the only one with problems here.

Is there a fix for the black npcs with static lighting? I need to use static because it makes everything blurry on other settings.

I take it you haven't spent $79 and got yourself a copy of Windows 7: ;-) I never had black anything on static lighting which I used almost always until my first SSD a while back. Blurring of some stuff in the distance is, I believe, intentional. There will also be blurring if you're tired, irradiated, drunk, wounded, etc.

Apr 21 2015 Anchor

The blurring doesn't seem intentional. It just looks like the edges of objects textures were smudged.

I also have a bug now where if someone stands up from being injured I get a CTD
