What are those Tie and X/Y-wing combinations?

Uglies, typically thrown together by pirates and local defense forces who can't afford or acquire standard fighters, so they use the parts they have. As you can imagine with all the fighting there are plenty of spare parts to go around.

The TIE ball + Y-Wing engines is most common (TYE-Wing) but also perhaps the worst performing fighter in the Galaxy. The Chir'Daki (TIE ball + X-Wing S-foils) are exclusive made by Twi'leks and are standardized enough to fly decently. Other variants tend to be in between, with the X-TIE (X-Wing hull + TIE panels) representing the average between the terribad TYE-Wing and the decent Chir'Daki (but still far below starfighter standards).

TIE-Wing is colloquially known as the DIE-Wing because it's flight characteristics are so terrible that it's essentially a flying coffin. However, when it's all you can afford...you use what you can get.

Despite the Chir'Daki being a Twi'lek ship in canon, it will simply be another "ugly" that's used by pirate factions. Those ships, along with the Z-95, R-22 on the end, will comprise the fighter classes for pirate/Hutt factions.

The R-22 is an interesting choice, though I guess it was probably easier (retconned A-Wing) than making a TransGalMeg (despite the Rihkxyrk being the stock pirate fighter I'm assuming its low enough quality at this point it'd have to be remade(?) and you can't give them MandalMotors designs for obvious reasons.

Hutts will actually have a few Mandal-motors designs and conversely, the Mandal-Motors designs that were commissioned for them will in some cases, be used by the Mandalorians themselves.

I do actually plane to re-model/texture the Rihkxyrk attack fighter though and use it for some factions as well.

Lookin' nice. Still not making the wait easier, though. Of course, given your general standards, this wait is going to be worth it, especially since the game looks so much better.

I don't suppose we could see a similar video like this in the future but with infantry and ground vehicles?

Description

This short video shows off new starfield techniques and a host of starships already in-game and playable. You'll notice however, that it was created in the map editor so no units seen in action this time...

*Note: I posted about the parallax effect some time ago but the video was poor quality. If this video is also compressed to poor quality by Moddb, please view it on YouTube at this URL:
