Fantsastic^^
Will they carry their weapons like the stormtroopers or like the rebels from the base game? It always looked like they would fire their blaster rifles like pistols :)

Cheers

Actually, the rifles that are iconic and associated with Rebel Troopers are designed to be fired both ways. They are like...compact little carbines meant to be a basic small arm weapon.

Now, there are assault rifles carried by Rebel soldiers as well and those will have the animation you are talking about. Yes, I plan to include variation in the NR Trooper ranks (varying weapons, skin tones, etc).

The ones they carry in the vanilla game/ most mods really look like smaller BlasTech Assault Rifles:
Img1.wikia.nocookie.net

But they fired them like they were pistols (or whatever can be one hand helded):

But it's nice to see some variations within the NR's forces.
I would like to see, in any mod, a upgrade to give your infantry better weapons. There are mods that add purchasable upgrades for many space units and land vehicles, but I have never seen anything for infantry.

Cheers

Purchasable upgrades are pretty tough to implement in this game, unfortunately. This is why most mods don't even bother.

I could have sworn that the Rebs in EaW used the gun from your second screenshot... That's the one I was referring to. Anyway, my NR troops will use both the BlasTech and the other, smaller gun.

Actually they use both. The troopers on urban and tempered maps have the second ones and the forest and snow troopers have the larger rifles. Because the Fleet Troopers in Ep. IV were depicted with the carbines and the Hoth and Endor Troopers in Ep. V & VI had rifles.

But all use the same animations, which is quite silly.

(Btw, the same applies for Imperial troopers: Carbines for default Stormies, rifles for Sand- and Snowtroopers.)

Yeah, Wookie replied that but it posted the reply down lower for some reason. It's a good point that I had forgotten about :)

Awesome! I always hate how most mods that overhaul the game ignore basic infantry. Ground battle needs love, infantry especially so.

Indeed. That's why I'm working on ground exclusively right now. Get it done first because everyone ignores it.

Excellent work, the_Farseer; you captured the desired look and feel of the trooper very well. I look forward to using them ingame when they become available.

Will you add in Alien and gender variations? Such as Bothans, Twi'leks, Sullustans etcetc?

And awesome models!

I was strongly considering it, yes. I think for now...and in the interest of time, I will leave it at humans. However, if I finish up the rest of the mod and there is still adequate time before the end of the year, I do plan to go back and add these details :)

I rather you take a bunch of weeks (or months) longer to add small details like such then release it earlier.

I mean we waited so long, we might aswell wait abit longer :P

We are both right tho. They carry the weapon from the second picture only on urban like planets, where they wear the Fleet Trooper Uniform. But animations are the same for both variants.

And somehow my comment ended up down here :)

So, will they have camo based on the planet they're on? Or will they go the storm trooper route and stick with one color scheme?

Also, will they have a visor (like Kota's militia)?

Snow maps will have soldiers in winter clothes (similar to the Hoth attire we are used to). Desert maps will use this but might have the sleeves rolled up, sunglasses/visor/etc, and forest/urban peeps will simply look like this.

I like that. Might have to refer to my infantry armies as peeps now.

Snow peeps would have something similar to what Han and Luke (parka/goggles/scarf) wore?

Really great work! Truly can't wait to kill them with my stormtroopers!!! :D

I'll have to install the Body-Stay mod, so the corpses don't disappear... ;)
Anyone has a link to a working one?

No need... RotM has it's own version of "body-stay" that will make corpses remain for a much longer period of time.

I thought so, because I played RoTM a long time ago. But then I stopped playing SWEaW for quite a while, and now I wasn't sure if this was the mod with that feature. Anyway, what I do remember is that this was my 3rd favourite mod (just after TR and ORAW), and from the looks of it, it just keeps getting better and better.

So keep up the great work!
;)

Personally I don't like his face.
Light armor is ok and figure looks nice.
But I don't think that lower legs would be armor-covered. If soldier has light armor that mostly means breastplate, hand gloves, helmet, maybe boots.
Something like this (different eras):

2.bp.blogspot.com
A.dilcdn.com
Farm3.static.flickr.com
Truthnet.org

All amored or no-legs armored.
Cheers :)

The Roman Legionnaire isn't a fair comparison... Totally different armor configuration for a completely different type of combat. The large Scutum (shield) compensates for the lack of greaves or other leg armor.

As for the other, notice how the image from Black Hawk Down shows every soldier there with knee-pads in addition to helmet and Kevlar? And the Scout Clones in the other image have knee-pads as well, plus armored boots that cover the shin. Here are some examples of futuristic light armor that all include greaves:

I think if the greaves were lower (similar to, say, an athlete's shinguards) it might look better. Basically would have to cover the boot, similar to the latter two images.

Right now, it looks a little weird, possibly because it looks like the white plates go up too far.

Description

I tried to create an armored version of a Rebel trooper to show what an early NR trooper may have looked like. Later NR Troopers (specifically during the Vong Invasion) had extensive armor that was actually derived from Stormtrooper uniforms. Since the mod takes place slightly before the Vong War, I didn’t want to depict quite that style. I figured a lightly armored soldier with elements of past Rebel troops would be the best approach.
