I really like this. Looks like something from armored cored with that cockpit. Good job, and I also really like the turbolaser idea!

T95 or T28? The T28 does look a lot like this and it's HUGE:

It is said: The prototype T95 (originally called the T28) Gun Motor Carriage super-heavy tank was a hybrid vehicle; somewhere between a tank, and a tank destroyer.

As Boda said they were in fact the same tank, although I believe T95 was the final designation. It was an utterly massive but slow tank designed to breach the Siegfried Line but ended up cancelled because the allies broke through too quickly.
Kind of an ironic testament to the fact that this thing was as slow as sin :P

T95 is just a T28 with another pair of trends bolted onto the sides to help it move

A cuppola or smth wouldve eliviated the visability problem too but ofcourse this keeps the design low, nice job :) i feel like many consurtium units, while petrolyph did want to go original, they made a lot of lacking design choices.

also loved the at aa btw, how will you balance AA and ground attackers btw? it always felt a bit clunky.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

the_Farseer - - 6,407 comments

The AA felt clunky? Well it shoots conc missiles now, rather than flak pods. The missile's slight tracking ability makes it actually quite good vs shielded vehicles. It has medium armor, which makes it vulnerable to heavies but also not completely safe from small-arms either (though hearty enough to fend off most small-arms threats without too much worry). I actually think the end result is pretty well balanced.

Yes i maonly meant the looks of the flak pods lol and the rate of fire there wasnt much feedback as far as i remember in vanilla, your speeders seemed to drop fast.

Yes i do like this underrated vehicle haha

Any cannon that big is sure to cause recoil but no, the engine segments won't slide as they did before but simply just jolt with the force of the shot, along with the rest of the tank. The actual barrel will slide a bit though, to absorb some of the initial recoil.

A lot better than the original model I have to say. I never liked how weak it seemed in skirmish or the campaign, so I never used it that much, but with the way it looks now and the different shot effect, I just might use them more often!

To be honest no one ever used them because in vanilla if you were playing ZC you just spammed mass driver tanks and won against everything, lol.

This has nothing to do with the tank picture ( which is gorgeous by the way ) I was wondering will you put Strill War Dogs in the game? I know canonically they are extraordinarily rare during this time period but I think they would make a really cool unit they are highly intelligent very loyal six legged predators with sharp fangs and claws that the manda kept as pets and beasts of war for thousands of years. And even used them for special ops missions they were a close and important part of the manda history, anyway if you don't do em that's fine I just thought I'd throw the idea out there. You should check out the wiki page for me lot of cool info.

I've actually read up on them already and they are quite cool. Perhaps I can add one as a companion for a hero unit? That way they still seem "rare" as there would only be one. I'll consider it :)

Seems more like the siege tank that the vanilla MZ-8 tried to be.

Also, is the lighter gun co-axial (like it's bigger neighbor), or is it turreted?

I do like the idea of it firing a turbolaser shot rather than twirling (almost rainbow) plasma. Speaking of twirling rainbow plasma, will the Aggressor still fire giant twirling balls of plasma?

the_Farseer Author
the_Farseer - - 6,407 comments

Co-axial. I still wanted it to be limited in some ways to not depart too much from the original unit.

The aggressors will not fire the same weapons. I have...plans for them ;)

I agree with the addition of a light gun... but considering how slow this tank will be to turn, etc.. how useful will the lighter gun be if it isn't turreted? I am just imagining a really big slow version of the terrible vanilla TIE-crawler... in the sense that it too only had forward firing cannons, but without its mobility... so that infantry just walk around it because its light gun can't track them at all.

I have to admit that I never really liked the design of this tank. It just doesn't look like a tank you would suppose to see in this universe. It looks more like a futuristic human tank or a unit from Command and Conquer. I guess I can live with that redesign, but I don't really like the original concept of this unit at all. Of course, this is criticism on the original Petroglyph concept, not your fantastic work on texture and details.

I get what you are saying completely. In reality though, there is a rule in design that "form follows function" and if you look back in Earth's history, many ancient civilizations had technology that looked and functioned very similarly, even though each civilization may have lived thousands of miles or years apart.

Take bows, spears, swords, wagons, all as an example. Tanks are a similar concept. It's essentially the form that followed the function of "we need a big-*** gun that can move around". Therefore, it's safe to assume that no matter what intergalactic species is designing it, tanks will look like tanks; universally.

In my opinion, it looks sturdier than most of the other tanks.

Out of curiosity, is this going to be as fragile as vanilla (the reason being, iirc, that it was essentially a gun with wheels)? I almost never used it because it was expensive and fragile.

No, it will be tougher in pretty much every way but will have no anti-air defense and a slow rate of fire. A good "base wrecker" but will need escorts.

Description

A moderate redesign of the original unit, I always thought it was strange that the vanilla Mz-8 was engine in the back and gun in the front, leaving no room for a pilot or any other crew. To remedy that, I simply chose an asymmetrical design that placed the cannon to the right a bit, making room for an armored cockpit. Further, any self-respecting tank designer (which any Mandalorian would be) would place some kind of small-caliber gun on the chassis to help defend against infantry...so I added one of those as well. Otherwise, the next big difference is just a change in the texture to better reflect the design of other Mandalorian units.

In-game, the Mz-8 will no longer shoot twirling plasma but will essentially be a mobile capital-ship turbolaser. In other words, it will be slightly bigger physically and pack the heaviest punch of any unit in the game, compensated for with a slow rate of fire.
