Also, my wife astutely observed that this ship looks strangely reminiscent of the Rebel crest and insisted that I include a reference pic. Have to do what the wife says... ;)

Beautiful ship. And yeah, it does look a bit like the rebel crest. Interesting.

I'm sure its purely coincidental but interesting anyway. Glad you like the ship :)

Now, a similarity that's really cool is the A-wing and the F-14 Tomcat. Seriously, take the Tomcat and chop off its wings and elevators, then move the cockpit to center of the fuselage...looks JUST like an A-wing.

Holy crap, it really does! I never noticed that. Now whenever I see a tomcat I'm going to think of an A-Wing.

You're Right lol. Chopped one up in MS Paint almost exactly like an A-wing.

Well if you think about it, A-wing was first seen in RotJ, which came out in the 80s. The 80s is when the Tomcat was in its prime...hence movies like Top Gun. Lol.

I always hate the marauder cruiser in all mods that ship it's made of paper even corvettes destroy it without effort >:(

But your model its very very pretty, and I hope you make that ship a little more usefull :)

It does trade defense for offense but its more of a sniper unit...of sorts. Long range turbolasers so it can take pot shots at capital ships and stay out of range...as well as get the jump on faster ships like the Tartan and other corvettes.

It was never meant to be a brawler though. Think of it like artillery. Effective when supported and used at range....dead meat of engaged directly.

Yeah almost all mods give that rol to the ship (except those who keeps the marauder launching missiles), but in the other mods the cadence of fire is very slow and inaccurate and the ship attacked (even corvettes) regenerate his shield more quickly than the marauder makes them damage , making the marauder useless.

If you give it a nice cadence of fire and accuracy will work fine :)

So much google translator to write this I hope you can understand. :/

Well that depends if you're using only one. In reasonable numbers (2-5) they wreck the Empire's strikecraft, leaving me to spend the rest on either Mon Calamari frigates and Mon Calamari Capitals.

Unless you're playing against the Consortium, in which case nothing can save you from their ships. Of course the base game had no balance beyond copying and pasting units, unlike just about every other mod for it.

Yes, they are meant to be used in groups for their best effect. Even the Wookie page says that ;) So send three at least.

Every mod gives that role because that is the role that the ship was meant for, according to canon. But yes, I've taken into account what you are saying and it has been made accurate as well as possessing a good fire rate. It will have power to weapons ability as well.

And don't worry, I understand you ;)

when ever i see one of these. i would abandon my defenses to close with and destroy. now i don't have to without the diamond boron missiles.

i will miss the missile frigate role though. they where the bread and butter of my forces. still now my space station can fight back :D

a good day indeed

Excellent work as always Farseer. Looks very sleek and low, as it should.

Sorry if I've been ill-informed, but why Turbolasers? I realised it had them in cannon, but they don't seem to fit on an artillery. It'd be strange seeming it fire a laser burst instead of missiles.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
the_Farseer Author
the_Farseer - - 6,407 comments

Why? Because it had them canonically, as you said :) Pure and simple. And for a space unit, I disagree... Think about it, missiles can be intercepted...can be taken off course, require thrust of some kind (therefore fuel), etc.

Lasers are literally the fastest projectile possible, pinpoint accurate (if we are speaking realistically....I realize in a game, they never are. Lol), should theoretically go on forever or until another force stops them, and require only some type of battery or power plant to fire...whereas missiles are limited by how many their host ship can carry.

But as far as gameplay goes, I also just hated how the marauder and broadsides were complete clones of one another. As stated above...Petroglyph's idea of "balance" was just to copy-paste every unit and make the factions totally symmetrical. Sure it makes things balanced...to the point of boredom and blandness. Each faction should be unique :)

Depending on what sort of engines you assume, missiles could be better. Have you read any David Weber?

Although by Star Wars logic, lasers make more sense.

I haven't ready any of Weber's work but I definitely know of him. In Star Wars, I believe the missiles use ion engines...which is the same as a TIE fighter. In other words, a low-power engine which produces moderate thrust. Obviously it isn't the same grade of ion engine a TIE uses...just the same technology.

This looks pretty cool. Always liked the way it looked. Do like the fact that you are giving it its turbolasers in addition to the fact that (as stated above) you're giving it actually decent turbolasers.

Will also look better than missiles coming out of a barrel clearly meant for a laser...

This would be interesting if there was an ion version (or it had a weapon switch).

Technically, it should have a tractor beam...but I think that ability would be rather useless in EaW mechanics. No version yet has an ion cannon though.

I think the target units were either too small/fast or destroyed too easily...Maybe as an auto-ability with large range and able to target more units? Hold them in place to be easy prey for teams of other units?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
the_Farseer Author
the_Farseer - - 6,407 comments

The problem is that even if allowed for "auto-fire"...the player would need auto fire turned on in the options...and I'd have to find a way to code units so they could target independently of their weapons and such. It'd be way to much work for an ability that I don't think would get used much....if it were even possible at all

I don't think (as far as an RTS like EaW goes) the tractor beam is a viable weapon.

Description

Originally designed during the Clone Wars, the Marauder never gained popularity with the Republic and as such, was largely sold to smaller organizations and private fleets. As such, when the Rebellion came into being, many Marauders were acquired or inherited into their fleets.

As to it's power, the Marauder is potent for it's size and is sometimes referred to as a "pocket cruiser" as it is able to hold it's own against larger ships, with little or no support. However, being armed only with tubolasers makes it quite vulnerable to bombers.
