Side by side comparison of original EaW/FoC model and texture with RotM v5 model and texture. I hope the improvements are many and worthwhile :)
I'd also like to point out that Petroglyph made a huge mistake with their a-wing model and put the texture on UPSIDE DOWN!! Lol. Take a look...
I never noticed that the texture's actually in the wrong place xD Anyway, I think the A-Wing looks much better now.

Ah but it wasn't technically mine because it was just the stock A-wing model with tweaked texture :) This one is mine from the ground up.

This makes me wonder, will each fighter/bomber class ship be useful through the tech-tree?
Or will later versions replace the originals? (Like...I think the Y-wing is basically replaced by the B-wing and that replaced by the K-Wing. I think.)
Almost right. The Y, B, and K wings all built off of the design successes/flaws of each other but they weren't really built to replace older units. The B-wing was design to fill the much needed role of anti-capital ship duty because the Y-wing, while robust, still lacked the necessary speed to carry out the job well. However, the B-wing was not at all suited for bombing duty and generally made more of a clumsy fighter due to it's awkward design. The K-wing was build as jack-of-all-trades craft that could act in the stead of the Y and B wings but also be an adequate fighter if pressed. I guess in that sense, the K-wing was meant to replace BOTH the Y and B wings...
As for progression... The mod takes place in a specific era and does not span eras so having things "upgrade" as you advance would seem weird since the R-22 and others were long obsolete by the era of the mod. Ships like this will bolster pirate and private militia navies, as they likely would in reality (much as our old aircraft are sold to other nations willing to pay when they become obsolete for us).

I'm wondering if, at Tech 1 you have the X-Wing, will it fill a niche throughout your tech levels? Or will it be superseded by another fighter?
No. I kinda adressed that in paragraph 2 of my essay... lol. But no, the units in the tech tree are constant because you aren't advancing through eras.
