I always love the K-wing.

Excellent work.

Thanks! Yes, it's one of my favorite ships. A true flying monstrosity! Something even a Mandalorian might envy ;)

K-Wing is awesome, but I'll always prefer the Y-Wing. Mostly for sentimental reasons.

That nostalgia though... Yes, I like the K-wing but Y-Wing is in my top 3 ships in all Star Wars.

What are the other two?

Actually, now I'm curious as to others' ship preferences...

In no specific order; the Y-wing, X-wing, and probably the Corellian Corvette. The T-47 airspeeder and Imperial Star Destroyer battle for 4th place. Now, the ONLY reason the Millennium Falcon isn't in the list is because it's in my top three space ships of all time list, not just of Star Wars ;)

If I had to list my top three (within the confines of Star Wars, anyways)...
X-Wing
Millenium Falcon/Slave One
K-Wing

Sci-fi in general...
X-Wing
Serenity
Normandy SR-2

That looks like a top 4 to me ;) Slave One is pretty awesome though. One of the most unique ships I know of. Serenity is cool because it's got an unusual design but I wouldn't put it in my top three, neither would I the Normandy (even though Mass Effect is probably one of the best game trilogies I've ever played).

Hard to choose between the Falcon or the Slave One. Lean more towards the Falcon because it basically epitomizes that cool used starship feel. Same with Serenity, but the Falcon basically made the trope.

This said, for being a sci-fi fan, I haven't watched/played too many different sci-fi franchises.

Well there's obviously Mass Effect and Halo...being the big ones right now. I'm sure you know them... If you aren't already interested, the Warhammer 40k universe is extremely deep and rich. It has compelling storyline and obviously some extremely cool ships and gear. Although, many of the 40k video games are average, in themselves. Dawn of War is great though and I liked Space Marine quite a bit (despite bad reviews). Total Annihilation is a great game too, even though its old and has no storyline...it just has awesome units and gameplay...and good god, there are SO many mods for it.

As for movies, there are the basics... Alien, Terminator, etc. Also check out Chronicles of Riddick if you haven't. Dark but very cool! Just make sure you watch the directors cut...because the changes they made for the theatrical version are LAME and really change the story.

If you read much, I so suggest the Legion of the Damned series by William Deitz. Great action and cool story :)

Oooh...forgot about Halo. WH40k I've delved into, more interested in the DoW (and DoW2) series, the setting as a whole doesn't catch my interest, though. Have played Space Marine...but there's a sound issue that I can't seem to solve; doesn't make the game impossible to play, just annoying. Will need a better machine for that one, I think.

Hmm... Interesting. I play Space Marine on my 360 and haven't had issues. Probably a bad port to PC, honestly. I think it was intended for console.

40k is definitely dark future, with heavy Gothic and ancient Roman influences. Not for everyone I suppose.

Given that I'm playing on a laptop, I don't think it's necessarily a port issue inasmuch (...that's actually an acceptable word?!) as it is an issue of playing on a machine not intended for playing games. A state that I intend to correct by building myself a new machine.

You might need to anyway... Sound issues that aren't software related, usually mean your motherboard is nearing the end of it's lifespan... I mean, assuming it's also not just a speaker issue. But yes, in general, laptops are not ideal for gaming.

Ahh Space Marine... it doesn't get any better than having an Assault Pack and a Thunder Hammer and roflstomping Orcs!

Yep :) I personally don't like the Thunder Hammer as much as the good 'ol bolt pistol and chainsword... That combo with the Assault Pack is wonderful :)

Of course, a good firefight with the trusty bolter is always fun too.

I would be worried about the motherboard, but it only seems to be that game that has the issue.

Well good luck figuring it out. It could just be the way that game runs off of your specific hardware too. If your motherboard doesn't have a sound card, than the audio will run off of the processor...and if the processor is already maxed out running the game, than audio generally gets the short end of the stick...

Eh, to be honest, the chainsword is my least favorite of the melee weapons XD The Power Axe is my second-place melee. I just love the sheer devastation that the Thunder Hammer causes, though.

Yeah, my one gripe about the hammer is that you can't use your other two weapons and I love a good firefight as much as I love the up-close action.

As far as the chainsword goes... I'm just a "classic" Space Marine, I guess. Lol. It just feels good to hear the pur of the chainsword engine and the rev, as it rips through ork and daemon!

Hooray! Someone who's actually tracking with the unit list I made a while back. Lol. Yes, this is their last fighter-type unit. Empire and Mandos are almost done as well. I've redacted a few units since the list was created but for the most part, it's still good to follow :)

Not likely. Not enough changes have been made to warrant the time, I think. I have made a couple edits to the original news article since it was published but it's not 100% current.

Ah, yes. Thought this one was neat when I first saw. And ridiculously armed to the teeth. Also one of few (in Star Wars) fighter class ships with a turret.

Also, seems like it'd play a similar role to the Basilisk (that is, powerful, higher tier fighter-class while in space).

More in line with the Kyr'Galaar in the sense that they are both heavy, multi-role craft. The Kyr'Galaar can take out a K-wing any day of the week though. They share a similar role but are not comparable craft beyond that.

That Basilisk War Droid is more...it's own class. It's not technically a fighter... It's like a space 'brawler'. It uses it's arms offensively as much as it's guns. And because of it's serpent-like movement characteristics, maneuverability doesn't really play a role with it because it can twist and roll in ways that a fighter just can't.

Of course, if you only meant within the confines of what's possible with EaW gameplay...than yes, I suppose they might be similar :)

Reply Good karma+1 vote
Wordsmith_Vithar
Wordsmith_Vithar - - 504 comments

Yeah, meant gameplay-wise. I imagine that if EaW's engine had all the features you'd need, I imagine that battling the Mandalorians would probably be an uphill battle when played on easy.

Their only downside in this era being the severe limitation of numbers... Since the existing clans would be quite small.

That would be an interesting caveat: using the pop caps and/or each unit's pop cost to help differentiate the factions (in addition to each units' stats and whatnot).

the_Farseer Author

I toyed with that idea, actually...making Mando units really powerful and then restricting their pop cap to balance and so on. I may still do that, once other mechanics are worked out.

I really love this fighter. the x wings and y wings have history, but the k and e wings? they were the signs of change. no more prewar fighters like the y wing, or pretty much homemade ones like the X, A, or B wings.
The galaxy and all its industry has come together behind the Republic, and nothing fills me more with the feeling of freedom than a tidal wave of advanced starfighters smashing through lines of TIEs and obliterating the formerly invincible SDs.
my bias is probably linked to most of my starwars experience being taken from playing ICW, and the joy of finally getting to the last few new republic eras and bringing these babies to bare.

Description

Built by the same company that designed the venerable and rugged Y-Wing, the BTL-S8 K-wing Assault Starfighter outguns even the devastating B-wing. Armed with two laser-cannon turrets, concussion missile launchers, plasma torpedo launchers, and proton bombs for ground missions, there is no enemy that does not have a healthy insecurity about facing a K-wing squadron in combat.

If a weakness were to be found in the K-wing, it would be it's slower than average speed and maneuverability. However, the front and rear turrets more than cover the K-wing's vulnerable spots. Where they might fail, hardy armor and shielding provide an excellent defense as well.
