An uncommon sight in the formations of the Imperial Navy, the Broadside-class Frigate was designed to fill a highly specialized role in combat and is therefore fielded in limited numbers. However, despite this the ship is easily recognized and well known due to it's devastating reputation against fighters. Pilots from all corners of the galaxy know full well to turn about-face and kick in full sublight power when one of these is spotted. The compliment of diamond boron missiles loaded into the primary weapon systems means that any pilot foolish enough to engage will not be around for very long.
In addition to the powerful missile payload, the ship is armed with two turbolaser turrets for defense against larger targets. Any competent Broadside captain will tell you though that those turrets are really more of a last resort than a primary defensive measure, as they aren't powerful enough to do much harm to most military-grade starships. That said, escort is still highly advised.

Seeing this thing brings back nightmares from the original campaign from the game. The AI kept spamming these ships non-stop; I remember one fleet consisting of at least 30 broadside cruisers.
Needless to say, I lost a lot of fighters that day.
they also like to spam artillery... what a ballache
Arty spam is my bane in ground combat. Hate it.
The idea is to make them far less spammy...hopefully.

In addition to chewing through fighters it will also still screw up the day of any space station I assume?
Thanks! The idea is to have diamond boron missiles only effective vs fighters and shields. Since its just basically a fragmentation projectile and blows out a bunch of shredding debris, I don't see how it would be effective vs bigger unit. Its like a frag grenade. Good against infantry...not so much against a tank.
