I guess it's to prevent faction matching, so the ability will be purely used as a backup rather than a cheap trick to mix factions.

Yer that was the plan but a lot of people like the gifting idea so i may add that back in with a draw back which i think is fare for cheating tech, If you gift an engineer of a different faction every think will cost x2 to build.

Is this changing your own units into different factions for your own use?

It takes your engineer and replace it with a ally's engineer after the conversion it gets change to there control, and yes there wont be no gifting and even this i may not add.

Its based on the SC/FA spawn menu but has been ported and improved for RVE.
