In the far future, makind still has not discovered how to travel faster than light. Sleeper arks are sent light years from the stagnant Solar System to colonise distant stars, but their voyage usually takes hundreds of years. Plenty of time for something to go wrong.
You wake up, on an unknown date, around an unknown star system, out of a malfunctioning cryo bay with all your memories lost to find your ship derelict and running on emergency power, and all the other occupants missing or dead. It's up to you to find out what's happened, and to get out of there before things get worse...
I e-mailed the Big Man himself about using his universe to set this mod in, but it's actually best to let him tell the story first instead of spoiling it with a game! So either what's going to happen is that this isn't set in the same universe (but with a similar, dark atmosphere to it), or we'll see what happens after the next book... We'll probably switch this to a Half-Life 2 mod instead, but again, we'll see... still on track to be made though!
dead mod
The models do look very nice... hmm... perhaps the game will introduce some aliens?
:D
Er, they're both set on spaceships where something's gone wrong, we must be stealing their idea then because they obviously came up with it first! And there's not going to be any naff worm monkey things or psi-amps or any of that gubbins here... neither of us have ever played SS anyway, this is all inspired by various sci-fi books...
its very different i assure you... i dont remember there being massive killer robots in System Shock 2...
Hey I'm sure I've played this game before.. oh yeah it was called System Shock 2 >:|
the setting is from a sf series (as in books) written bij Alastair Reynolds, so if the atmosphere is half as good as in the books then it'll be one helluva creepy mod. i'd buy doom3 just to play this mod so to say :)
you really should try reynolds btw, series starts (short stories not included) with revelation space, after that chasm city, redemption ark, diamond dogs/turquiose days and the yet to be published absolution gap. best hard sf/horror series ever!!
alright, i'll shut up now :p
Sounds a lot like System Shock to me.
I have to agree, if this mod is done right it could be VERY cool.... :D
Very intresting idea.. =P
