The Intern's Story, is a game set in the classic Call of Cthulhu setting of 1920s New England as described by the imagination of H.P. Lovecraft.
The third chapter of the period story proposes to build a great looking set that is a fitting place to finalise the story from the fist two episodes that were built by myself with some excellent input from a small group of talented individuals.

So it's 2010 and we have missed our
unofficial deadline by quite some margin. Not that I ever stated that
this was when I would like to have released TIS 3 but it would be
have been nice to see how it would have done in this years Mod DB
awards.
So where are we and what's the news?
The highs and lows of a dev.
This final episode is quite clearly
divided into 4 chapters and three of these have been mapped. I am now
going over the chapter 1 maps, polishing and optimising. I confess
this is something that I find quite difficult as it is a lot less fun
than the initial design and mapping that allows the creative side to
flow as well as allowing a lot of discussion for the team.
It is all looking rather good if I say
so myself and with a bit of technical genius from one of our boffins
we have the ability for forested skyboxes. We have had a rather good
Voice Actor gift us with his talent, a snatch of which I will post
for you to hear. VA's still wanted though.
We are also still looking for a level
designer for the missing chapter as I feel this is an area that would
benefit from a style unique from my own. So if you, or you know of
anyone that would like to try their hand at non-euclidean mapping, :)
please drop me a line.
I have a new PC on which to rebuild the
existing maps which has been a been both a blessing and a pain. Maps
now compiles 100% faster as hammer can take advantage of multi-core
processors but the optimisation tool, +showbudget hates the maps and
spikes all over the place and shows the fps as a minus figure! This
had me pulling my hair out quite for quite a time until I had a
brainwave and tested an EP2 mod for TIS 3. Seems like the maps are
fine in EP2 and it is the EP1 engine that is actually unoptimised! So
another dilemma, continue with building in EP1 or move up to EP2? I
have always wanted to release for EP1 as I know a lot of people
didn't actually bother with EP2. Using the EP2 engine would reduce
the target audience, which I think is quite small anyway and this
seriously concerned me. The answer we came up with was quite simple
in the end, as it turns out. Release in both formats and hope that
Mod DB don't mind me clogging up their server space. :)
So it's definitely onwards and upwards
after a bit of a hole was climbed out of and the Xmas break has
allowed us to recharge our batteries for the next leg of the voyage.
One that is likely to be a bit slow due to my own dislike of this
particular stage of design and tweaking.
So wish us a fair wind and the that the
stars are right and we will push on to that high plateau of
completion where wonders await.
Quin.
For this update I have included a few
new screenshots as well as some discarded concepts to keep that
appetite suitably whetted and a new theme by Allicorn. As usual
though, I am trying not to give too much away about the story, just
hints of the true nature of the dimensional expanse of the piece.

Thanks for the great comments and when part 3 is done I think we will have some very happy customers.
As for the next project EP, I have toooo many ideas rattling around in this brainbox. Ideas that range from an online CoC board game to a multi-investigator campaign.
But before that, a little update.
The polishing of the MoM has come on quite a way and this section of the process is about 60% complete. The down side of this is that I will have to start tackling the faceposer work before too long. :(

Excellent mod! I love your "Touch" with the Cthulhu mythos.
Lovecraft is one of the greatest horror writers ever!
Is a shame that is not recognized as such :(
Keep doing a great job!
Ok so I just played the first intern's story- Jeez the thing with the manhacks attatched to ropes to look like tentacles was brilliant. My favorite part was the icy cliff scene, that was just so atmospheric and magical lol. The second is way more 'horrific' but the first is very otherworldly. Great job, cant wait for the third.
what are your plans after this?
I just played it... Jeez, I loved it. The whole idea is excellent, I loved the mapping, and I was so freaking happy when I emerged into the sunlight... Never have I played such a good horror mod, it was truly a great experience. But Im confused- I think there may have been an installation error with me. Where you wake up and are in the asylum cell... Is that 1 or 2?
Hey man,
Really pleased you liked it so far.
Installation error!? Oh drat. Someone else mentioned that part 2 installed over part 1 and I thought this was a one off as nobody else has mentioned this. They worked it out by playing part 1 before installing part 2. Anyway, Part 1 starts on a flight of stairs and part 2 is the wake up in a cell scene. So if you missed the part 1 story. Give it a go.
As far as mapping goes, thanks for your comments but I feel that TIS 2 mapping is rather weak. As I have mentioned elsewhere TIS 2 was my first release using Source. I then went on and remade TIS 1 from the original UT mod after that. It has much better mapping, imho.
Thanks again for the great comments. They always help to re-energise my efforts. :)

Sounds like you're putting a lot more work into the third installment. Glad to hear it.
A lot has been learnt from the first two parts and we have established a good core team. This final episode is epic in comparison to parts 1 & 2, well our aspirations are epic at least. We can only hope that it lives up to most of our aims.
Q.
Thats weird... I never saw this on moddb! Downloading eps. 1 right now!
You are right to remind me about the lack of updates, sorry for this.
A case of too many jobs and not enough hands. I will make it my next job after I have sorted a few other items. :)
