This crashes in Depth Charge when the weapon stripper after the weapon stripper overloads.

Nevermind it was because I was using the Combine Neo Heavy model for the Elite.

I can't wait to re-play the mod with this fix.
Loved this mod so much I was the one who made the first patch. =)

New patch= Sounds good!

(2.64mb, that's *less than (2) 1.44mb floppy discs!)

Q: I'm curious- How would you rate the difficulty of making the patch- amount of time needed to make the patch? Related, how would you rate your knowledge of Minvera/ Source 2006-2009 engine to those "in the know" at Valve Inc?

The amount of time needed was quite small, and even then most of it went on designing the new particle effects.

Nevertheless, locating and fixing the problems did require quite a lot of in-depth knowledge of how the engine works.

Problem with 2011_02_08_metastasis_patch_2011.zip patch, Crash with looping sound

FRESH install of Metastasis
2007_10_03_metastasis_patched.exe
CRC32 FCDA2579

Patched with 2.64mb patch:
2011_02_08_metastasis_patch_2011.zip
CRC32 E8FA700E

Problem: Crash with looping sound
Map: metastasis_2
After hitting switch that swings I-beams back and forth that crashes thru door. You double back- going downstairs to where the (3) turrets were- with that swinging I-Beams.

When arriving on lower level- several enemies appear- normally I dispatch them before proceeding thru door damaged by I-beams.

While engaging enemies game crashes with following error message:

Too many verts for a dynamic vertex buffer (36120>32768) Tell programmer to up VERTEX_BUFFER_SIZE

Someone else had this problem, but I've never encountered it so there's not a lot I can do. Do you have a weak video card? Try running with a lower DX level.

Actually other people are reporting the same Too many verts for a dynamic vertex buffer (36120>32768) Tell programmer to up VERTEX_BUFFER_SIZE error message.

Silvermink /Daftmink who created the stable, problem-free patch posted in the downloads section as a example said he was getting the SAME error message.:

13. Engine Error
Posted by DaftMink at 2:11PM, Sunday February 13 2011

On the map metastasis_2 I got this error.

Mgofiles.com

Was able to get by it by going a bit slower through the area, but still.

Another crash with 2011_02_08_metastasis_patch_2011.zip patch

No error message on screen.

(I would assume the game engine keeps a log?- If so let me know- I'd be happy to forward it.
Related- if you have any pull with Valve- If the logs indicate that a customer is experiencing lock-ups after a engine "update" - the engine should sense this and offer the customer to run the engine in some type of compatibility mode/ run the old WORKING engine.)

Location of crash? Crashes (HARD lockup with sound looping) after hitting the switch the combine guy blows the door... Game crashed hard right after passing thru blown door at top of stairs as show in link for metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe below.

PS: This is the SAME spot that Metastasis started crashing after the May-2010 "update".
(Episode One's upgrade from Source 2006 to 2009)

* Adam Foster /CargoCult the creator of Metastasis stated on his forum the new engine has problems tracking? too many enemies. He said the new engine wasn't as robust.

*Note the Metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe patch RUNS perfectly.
Fresh install- Not loading from "saves" from Metastas-11-04-2010-patch-exe directory.

Moddb.com

Location of crash-Proceed thru doorway at top of stairs = Hard lockup-looping sound.

This was fixed in the patch. You must have installed it wrong, somehow.

Geez, what a lot of patches! *confused* Do I need to install the base package first, and then all patches over it? Or just the last patch?

What I did was this: (1) Install and then run the base package, but don't play the game yet; then (2) install a patch, I used the Officially Unofficial Source 2009 Patch. Try that.

I'd appreciate some guidance with procedure. I originally had HL2 with first initial installment of Metastasis (first two levels). Then later bought seperately Ep 1 as Cargo said last two levels were done with that engine. I have not installed that game and in fact have to reintall HL2. I downloaded Metastasis patched and I guess I'll also dl the 2009 patch as it seems to be required in addition to the Metastasis patched.exe, is that correct? So please confirm..
1. Install HL2
2. Install Episode 1
3. Install Metastasis patched and
4. Install Source 2009 patch.

Next question..I see the note stating about changing resolution from 16.10 to 16.9. Not sure how this applies to game and my monitor. It supports resolutions 1440x900 or 1920x1080. Is there anything I have to do to accomodate game to my monitor settings other than going into Options? The only problem that might exist, is that Mod was made before the resolutions that my WideScreen monitor supports. I have only very basic knowledge and so need this extra help please. Could that be a problem? Thank you.
