A quick tutorial that shows you how I make weapons for LURK.

Hey guys, some people wanted some more insight on how I make weapons for LURK etc, so I figured I might as well share it here!

It's 4 hours, 25 minutes long, and shows how to make a high poly model, low poly model, unwrap the low poly model, render normal maps from the high poly model and texture it with specular/gloss/diffuse maps. (STALKER doesn't unfortunately support gloss maps, and it uses normal maps differently, though. For STALKER normal maps you have to move the blue channel to the green channel, red channel to alpha 1, green channel to blue channel and specular from alpha 1 to red channel)

It does, yes. :) I don't show how to change the normal maps to STALKER format, but it's as easy as switching some channels around.

I'm just curious, have you ever made any models for Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat? I ask because I'm interested in both making and importing models from SOC for those games but they work a little differently (they have no arm models).

If you have done any work with them would you mind giving a general idea on what needs to be done differently to get them to work properly?

I can't really convert the meshes at all, but actually making the model/textures aside from importing is pretty much the same for any game.

Damn. I don't model myself but still watched the whole thing. I put some quiet chilling relaxing music behind the videos with my media player and it was the best relaxed trip ever (especially when you textured the gun without sound). Thanks for making my day awesome.

We didn't really have many good tutorials around when I started back in 2004, so it was mostly trial and error!
